William Orvil Durrett Kilpatrick Funeral Home Ruston, LA William Orvil Durrett of Simsboro, LA was born February 3, 1920, the son of Hester Mozelle Daniel Durrett and Daniel Richard Durrett. He passed away Monday, October 8, 2007.Memorial services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 10, 2007, at Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church south of Simsboro with the Reverend Ron Cathey officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home. W. O. was a cotton farmer, a cattle farmer, and a tree farmer. He spent 34 years working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as County Executive Director for Jackson and Winn Parishes from 1949-1985. During this time he met and became friends with many families in the area. He was a member of the Jonesboro Lions Club and the American Legion Post 0070 of Arcadia, LA. During WW11 he served on the USS Bootes He was well known for his support of Simsboro High School Athletics, attending every sport his six children took part. This support continued with grandchildren and great grandchildren. The Lady Techsters provided enjoyment to him for many years. Mr. Durrett was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 55 years Myrtle McClellan Durrett, his sister Hester Elizabeth Stinnett and his brother Ralph D. Durrett. He is survived by three sons, Richard and wife Nancy Durrett of Ruston, Don and wife Martha Durrett, and Doug Durrett of Simsboro; three daughters, Diane Alexander of Minden, Sue and husband David Gullatt, Marilyn and husband Ted Polman of Simsboro; one sister, Joyce Ann McKinniss of Loveland, Ohio; sisters-in-law Mary E. Cathey of Simsboro, and Doris Heard of San Antonio, Texas. Pawpaw had 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons Ricky Durrett, Tony Durrett, Daniel Durrett, Toby Polman, Garrett Durrett, and nephew Gary Cathey. Visitation will Tuesday October 9, 2007 from 5:00 -8:00 P.M. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA. Memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Memorial Cemetery Fund, 11341 Hwy. 80, Simsboro, La.
