Funeral services and burial were held at Beulah Baptist Church. Bro. Aleck Nygaard and Bro. Charles Malone officiated under direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Farmerville. Garland was born February 25, 1921 in his home at Spearsville, LA. After graduating high school at the age of 17, he enrolled at LSU. After receiving his degree in Science he joined the Navy serving three years and six months. During the war, he served as a Naval Aviator PBY Instructor, as well as Instrument Flight Instructor in Corpus Christi, Texas. He served in the American Theater and Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Garland landed on Iwo Jima before the air fields were secured. He was also on the first wave of pilots to pick up POW's in Tokyo, Japan and fly them to Hawaii. After the war, he was a pilot for Pam American for a short time. He then returned to Union Parish to make his home with the love of his life, Annette Patterson Wade. Garland was a loving husband, father, and granddaddy. Garland was a member and deacon of Beulah Baptist Church and later a member of Salem Baptist Church. He was a cattle and tree farmer and retired as administrator of ASCS offices in Union and Lincoln Parishes. He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for hunting quail and golfing with friends. Mr. Wade is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Amma Bennett Wade, and William Ablosoum Wade, and sister Beatrice Wade Risinger. He is survived by his wife Annette Patterson Wade; son, William Gary Wade and wife Linda Wade; son, John Roger Wade; daughter, Mary Amma Colvin, and husband, William Colvin; son, Alvin Paul Wade; daughter, Alice Lynn Cook and husband, Harry Cook; son, Joseph Michael Wade, and wife Lois Wade; daughter, Barbara Annette Keene and husband, Mike Keene; fifteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and sister, Geraldine Elkins. Pallbearers were grandsons: Landon Wade, Garrett Wade, Daniel Colvin, Logan Wade, John Cook, Andrew Cook, William Keene, Justin Keene, Chris Wilson, Zack Jenkins, Brad Blaylock, and Brandon Jackson.
