Funeral services for Mr. Wallace D. ¨Lucky Counselman, Sr. will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 14, 2010 in the Chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of Monroe on Lamy Lane. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Friday, August 13, 2010, at Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of Monroe on Lamy Lane. Interment services will follow on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at 1:15 P.M. at the Natchez National Military Cemetery in Natchez, MS with full military honors under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of Monroe. Lucky passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, doing what he loved playing golf. He was born in Coffeville, Alabama on February 24, 1921. He married his sweetheart, Yvonne, on December 1, 1940, and the two of them traveled the world during his career in the U. S. Air Force until he retired as a Lt. Col in 1971. Afterwards, he went back to work in the service as a civilian working to manage the Air Force Commissary Services. He retired from the civil service in 1986 while living in San Antonio, Texas. In October of 1998, he and Yvonne moved to Monroe to be closer to family. Lucky≠s ever-present smile and positive attitude, his love for Yvonne and his family, and his passion for the Lord, golf, and a good joke could not be missed. Lucky was well-known at Frenchman≠s Bend Golf Course, where he was a member. At age 89, he still played golf 3 times a week and had a total of 6 holes-in-one, with the last taking place in 2009. Lucky was a member of Forsythe Avenue Church of Christ and attended First United Methodist Church as well. He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Yvonne Counselman of Monroe; brother, Sidney Counselman and wife, Frances of Huntsville, AL; son, W. D. ¨Jake Counselman of Lafayette; daughter, Ann Sears and husband, Doug of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Cyd Page Jacobs and husband, Joey of Monroe; grandchildren, Josh Sears and wife, Laray of Albuquerque, NM, Mike Sears and wife, Amy of Kansas, Jessica Page Johnston and husband, Jeremy of Baton Rouge, LA, Zachary Sears of Albuquerque, NM, Aly Page Taylor and husband, Josh of West Monroe, LA Shane Sears and wife, Erin of Albuquerque, NM, Jonathan Jacobs and Justin Jacobs of Baton Rouge, LA and Thomas Jacobs of New Orleans, LA; great-grandchildren, Joey and Mason Sears of Albuquerque, NM and numerous nieces, nephews, and ¨adopted grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be his fellow golfers and staff at Frenchman≠s Bend Golf Course. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Ouachita Christian School, St. Jude≠s Research Hospital, or Claiborne Christian School.

I had the pleasure of working as Mr Counselman's secretary in 1976-1978 at the AFCOMS Central Region HQs Office when he was the Deputy Commander. He was such a gentleman in the truest sense of the word and such a sweet, fun-loving person. He always treated Yvonne like she was his new bride-- what a beautiful 70-year love story! And he was always bursting with pride when it came to Jake, Ann, and Cyd. His caring and fair-mindedness influenced my actions as I climbed the management ladder. I shall always remember him fondly and with gratitude.

I would like to send my condolence to the Counselman family. In times like this I reflect on the God's promise in John 5;28,29 of a resurrection of our dead loved ones. I hope this note brings you comfort at this time.

I echo the sentiments expressed by others in the Guestbook that Lucky was truly one of the most positive gentlemen one could ever encounter. He was always good for a smile and a hearty handshake whenever I would see him at the FB clubhouse, and he will be greatly missed!

Lucky was a great guy and a wonderful supervisor. I worked for Lucky many years when I first moved to San Antonio with the Air Force Commissary Service. We played Golf every weekend. I always enjoyed being around Lucky. Always laughed and had fun times. Although we lost touch with each other in recent years, I've often thought about the years we worked together and the mentoring he provided.

I'm glad I have a wonderful memory of seeing Duvard and Yvonne at my Mom's 90th birthday in February. It was so generous of them to be there. Everyone there loved talking to Duvard.....what a positive and delightful man! He will surely be missed by all who knew him.

Peace of mind is a call away. We're here when you need us most.

Cyd, just letting you, Joey, and your family know that you are all in our prayers and that we pray for the peace of the Lord to be upon you all in this time of loss. Always remember, you'll see him again. With much love, Kip & Ramona

Dear Cyd, Though we didn't know your father, we know you and your family, of whom he must have been very proud. In addition to defending his country in war and in peace, he reared a wonderful daughter. A legacy like that is all the honor one needs, though he earned many others. His love and wisdom will sustain you through the years, and you will pass that on as a legacy of your own.

Never have I known a man with a more positive attitude of life. Our golf games were always spiked with his humor and wonderful quips. My heart was saddened when I was told of his passing. Please know, Yvonne, many of us in San Antonio loved him.

We had the honor of living across the street from Lucky and Yvonne in San Antonio for 24 years. He was the kind of friend and neighbor that we all should be - friendly, helpful, energetic, hospitable, concerned and invariably optimistic about everything. He loved God, his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and golf with boundless gusto. I learned much about how to live life well just by observing the way he did it. Both Celeste and I will be indebted to him for the rest of our lives for setting such an example. He will not be forgotten.

It was truly an honor to get to care for and know Mr. Counselman. He was the dearest gentleman with the best candy in the world. He never made an appointment that he didn't bring his great peanut brittle or most recently his pecan/pretzel candies delicious. He always had an smile and a kind word, regardless of how bad he may have felt. He will be greatly missed. Our prayers and thoughts go out to Ms. Yvonne, a very special lady, and the entire family. We have only known Lucky for a few years, but what a sweet blessing he has been to our lives. He and Yvonne are so special. His love for God, country, children ...was only surpassed by his love for Yvonne. There will be many disappointed children at church this Sunday. He always had candy for them when they would come see him where he and Yvonne sat every Sunday. Our love and prayers for this sweet family.

I am praying for you all's peace, direction and strength. May God touch each and every one of you. Life is about memories, and I know your memories will cause you to feel warm inside and smile as his love will always be in your hearts. Be blessed.

I was so saddened to hear of Dovard's passing, and my sincere condolences go out to Yvonne. I am so glad we had our mini-reunion a few years ago while mother Ruby was still with us. She thought the world of Dovard and the visit was a highlight of her last years. I pray God's comfort and peace will be with the family. He was an extraordinary man and will be missed.

Lucky was one of the finest men I have ever known. Living at Frenchmans Bend will not be the same without his smile and handshake. He has touch all our lives out there forever..Goodbye my friend..tell St. Peter about your hole in 1!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you now. Bill and Dovard visited by phone a number of times in the past few years. They relived memories of playing in the gulley behind the Counselman home in George County, MS. Cedar Creek was a great place to swim and get rid of the dirt from the gulley! Dovard was a wonderful person with smiles for everyone. He will be missed.

We were blessed with his always smiling face, ever present joy of each new day and his ability to have a story or joke handy. May you find peace knowing that he is in the heavens with the angels, as he was certainly an angel, on earth.
