Funeral services for Viola Newsom will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, January 19, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Swartz with Rev. Aaron Dickinson officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.Mrs. Newsom was born on June 22, 1929 in Crossett, AR and passed away on January 16, 2017 in Monroe, LA. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Swartz, LA, a secretary for F. Strauss and Son, and then for Malone and Hyde. Viola and her husband James always enjoyed camping with family and friends. After retirement, they traveled the world.She is survived by a son, Jimmy Newsom, and wife, Teresa, Adopted son, Paul Hough; grandchildren, Amanda Bonsall and husband, Craig, Jay Newsom; 3 step-grandsons, Michael, Heith, and Wesley Hammons; and 8 great-grandchildren.Visitation will be from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM, Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.

I remember Ms Viola fondly. As a child and through my high school days I spent many hours at F Strauss & Son's office. Much of that time was at Mrs. Newsom's side. She taught me how to operate a switch board and other business machines of the day. I remember her as a kind and most patient lady. My condolences and prayers go to her family and all those who called her dear.
