TROY EDWARD REDMAN September 12, 1927 – March 20, 2011 Troy Edward Redman, M.D., 83, of Calhoun, Louisiana, a pioneer in establishing the American Heart Association's Advanced Cardiac Life Support program, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, after an extended illness. A member of the 1985 National Conference on Standards and Guidelines for CPR and ECC, he was Vice-President and President of the American Heart Association-LA 1984-1986 and was awarded the “Silver Torch,” the highest volunteer recognition award, for his outstanding leadership and guidance. Funeral services for Dr. Redman will be graveside at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun, LA 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 23, 2011. Officiating will be Dr. Greg Clark assisted by Rev. Dale Walker. Interment will follow under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Dr. Redman was born in Lead Hill, Arkansas, son of the late Erskine and Ruth Redman and graduated from Neosho High School in 1945. After serving two years in the U.S. Navy, he earned a BS in Chemistry from Hendrix College in 1954, a BS in Medicine at Arkansas State Teachers College in 1954, and his M.D. from the University of Arkansas Little Rock in 1958. He completed his internship at St. Vincent's Infirmary 1959 and preceptorship in Internal Medicine with Dr. James Wortham, former Dean of the University of Arkansas Medical School, in 1960. His fellowship in Internal Medicine was at Ochsner Clinic and Foundation Hospital, New Orleans, from 1960 to 1965, with additional training in Rheumatology. He served as Medical Director at E.A. Conway Hospital, Monroe, LA, to establish a resident training program in association with Ochsner Clinic 1962-1963. American Board of Internal Medicine 1964. Dr. Redman was in private practice in Internal Medicine in Monroe, LA, from July 1964 to August 2001. He was an active staff member of St. Francis Medical Center, Monroe, and North Monroe Community Hospitals. He served on the National Faculty and Board of Directors of the American Heart Association; was member and physician consultant Ouachita Parish Heart Council and many other positions concerning cardiac care in Louisiana; established training programs and lectured nurses and physicians in ACLS and Electrocardiography; and helped St. Francis Medical Center become the first hospital in the nation to begin these programs. He was Chairman, Continuing Education Committee and Director of Coronary Care Unit, St. Francis Medical Center. He was Charter Member and Secretary, Physician's Electrocardiographic Data Service, Inc., Monroe, LA. He was a member of the American Medical Association, Louisiana State Medical Society, Ouachita Parish Medical Society, American Society of Internal Medicine, Louisiana Society of Internal Medicine, Southern Medical Association, and American Heart Association. Dr. Redman attended Baptist church as a child, was a member of the Presbyterian Church 1953 to 2005, and served as Elder for many years. He joined Cedar Crest Baptist Church West Monroe in 2005. He was active in Indian Guides and supported other community endeavors such as Louisiana Baptist Children's Home. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Ann Adams Redman; two daughters Mary Kathleen Dupree of Calhoun and Margaret Suzanne Redman of Jacksonville, AR; one son, Michael Edward Redman and his wife Angela Yvette of West Monroe; one sister Mary Ellen Wade and niece Ruth Elizabeth Page and husband Roger Page of Little Rock, AR; three grandchildren Georgia Kathleen Dupree of Calhoun; Kathlyn Elizabeth Redman and Logan Trase Redman of West Monroe; numerous other relatives and many dear friends. Pallbearers will be Burl Humphries, Dewaine Lenard, Marshall Boyd, Jim Gregory, and Jimmy Bice. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Ouachita Parish Medical Society; member-brothers of Cedar Crest Baptist Church; Mike Frost; Jackie Miller; Hershel Henry; Roger Page, Lance Waldrop; Ken Wagley. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Hershel Harter, Dr. Arthur Liles, Dr. Frank Weinholt, Dr. Brian Krier, Dr. Sumna Kuruvilla, and many other doctors, members, and staff of the medical community; and all the Ridgecrest Community Care Center and Hospice Compassus for their loving care of Dr. Redman during his illness.
