Services for Tommy Garrett Head, 86, of West Monroe will be held on Wednesday, May 30, at 2:00 P.M. in the First United Methodist Church of West Monroe with the Rev. Wanda Cosentino officiating and the Rev. Ricky Willis assisting. . Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 29, from 5:00 to 7:00 P M. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe. Mr. Head was born December 9, 1920, in rural Jackson Parish and died Sunday, May 27, at his home in West Monroe. He was the thirteenth of 16 children born to Leighton Yancy Head and Bertha Dozier Head. He graduated from Eros High School and attended business college in Monroe, where he met his wife of 65 years, the late Wilma Stutson Head, who preceded him in death on January 14, 2007. Mr. Head served in the U. S. Army in World War II as a water supply technician in the 344th Engineering Regiment in Italy, Southern France, the Rhineland, and Central Europe. After the war, he was briefly in the grocery business with his brothers then joined the lumber and contracting business owned by his brother-in-law, the late T. A. Sanders. He later went into business for himself as a building contractor, then formed Monroe X-Ray Company, a company that provides radiographic inspection services for the pipeline industry. During his ownership of Monroe X-Ray, he developed the first totally remote internal inspection device in the United States. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in West Monroe and its Fellowship Sunday School Class for 45 years. He served several terms as a member of the church≠s Board of Trustees. He was also a member of the Lions Club and the Rotary Club. He is survived by a sister, Virginia Head McGrew of Chatham; sons Thomas Head, Jr., of Washington, D.C., and Kenneth Y. Head and wife Peggy of Calhoun; daughter, Julia Head of Plant City, Florida; grandsons, Ken Head and wife Jennie and Toby Head and wife Kristen of Calhoun; and great-grandchildren, Kendall Head, Jackson Head, and Abigail Head of Calhoun. Pallbearers will be Oscar Head, Mickey Head, Terry Head, Jerry Sanders, T. A. Sanders, Jr., Mark Sanders, Al Sanders, and Kevin Watson.
