STEPHEN BRICE GILLIKIN
Stephen Brice Gillikin died peacefully surrounded by his family on October 14, 2023, in Monroe, Louisiana. Steve was born August 28, 1943, in Mobile, Alabama, where he grew up, graduating from Murphy High School in 1961. He entered Auburn University that year and received his Bachelor of Building Construction degree in 1965. Steve was an active member and officer of the Sigma Chi Fraternity during his years at Auburn and was an avid and lifelong Tiger fan. Steve’s professional career started early on with International Paper Company and continued until 1983, when he joined Rimcor, Inc., headquartered in Bastrop, Louisiana. He was elected president in 1993, and in 1999 he acquired ownership of the company, all the while expanding its operations to projects in areas located well beyond its initial regional market. Steve enjoyed water sports, and, while living in coastal Florida and Alabama, he spent much time diving the reefs, shucking oysters, water skiing and fishing with family and friends. He expanded those good times with many vacations of snow skiing and camping trips, including lasting memories traveling and exploring areas of the United States, Europe and Africa. He loved his Lake Bruin summer home and spent a large part of his later years there in the company of family and close friends. He made this summer home a place of lasting memories for his family, especially his 5 grandchildren. He was active in community organizations, among others the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce, and was the recipient of many awards for his work and leadership. He led many projects in Bastrop, such as the restoration of the Rose Theater and the Main Street Revival. He also faithfully served his church as junior warden, senior warden and lay minister. He will be remembered for his pursuit of excellence and his genius in designing, building and repairing almost anything. Steve is preceded in death by his parents Elaine Brown Gillikin and James I. Gillikin; and by his sister Elaine Forbes Gillikin. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Sheryl Fendley Gillikin; son Jay Gillikin and his wife Christine; daughter Leslie LeDoux and her husband Joby; grandson Blake Gillikin and his wife Tyler; grandson Brice Gillikin and his wife Kristen; grandson Charlie LeDoux and his wife Kaela; granddaughter Emily LeDoux; grandson Jack LeDoux; and six great grandchildren.
