A memorial service celebrating the life of Shirley Hoffmann Cagle will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. Officiating will be Pastor Michael Wood. Representative Frank Hoffmann, her brother, will deliver the eulogy. On April 23, 2015, we said farewell to a truly wonderful and loving mother and leader of the community, Shirley Hoffmann Cagle. Shirley was born on July 7, 1929 in New Orleans, LA. She moved to West Monroe as a child and lived in Monroe her entire life. She went on to be a loving wife, homemaker and mother until her forties. For more than three decades, she served Monroe and surrounding areas as the Assistant Director of the Ouachita Council on Aging. Shirley used her zest for life and compassion for others everyday and adored her job. Her duties helping seniors with their many different challenges throughout the day was fulfilling to her and comforting to them. She will be remembered for her love of life and her service to others. Shirley's legacy will be seen in many seniors that through her help and guidance found that aging is not impossible. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, of 56 years, Ira Cagle, Jr.; her parents, Fred and Lenora Hoffmann; and brothers, Henry Hoffmann and Fritz Hoffmann. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Tod Cagle and his wife, Sally of West Monroe, and Toby Cagle and his wife, Michelle of Monroe; five grandsons, Jeremy, Brian, Josh, Chad and Chase Cagle; six great grandchildren, Mary Helen, Sally Grace, Downey, Layla Rene, Makinze and Currie; sisters, Estelle Cunningham and Jane Whittle; and brother, Frank Hoffmann; and numerous nieces and nephews; her best friend of 50 years, Linda Thomas. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Monday, April 27, 2015 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. Donations in Shirley's memory may be made to the Ouachita Council on Aging located at 2407 Ferrand Street, Monroe, LA. Online condolences may be left at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com.

In my 7 years of working with the sweet lady I felt her compassion for the elderly.. I'm proud to say I'm the receptionist for OCOA and since she'd been there 30 plus years she knew so much more than myself.. I met Ms Shirley when I went to work for Food For Families about 9 yrs. ago. . I talked to her several times a week and sometimes several times in the same day. I was a volunteer for a little while @ OCOA, and in that short time I did get to meet one of the gentlelest little sweet person God ever created. Ms. Cagle was so sweet to my Mom when she attended the activities at the Ouachita Parish Council on Aging. It took us forever to get mom to attend any events there and then we could not got her to miss a single one. That was due in part to the giving spirit of Ms. Cagle.
