Roger Maxwell, 73, of Jonesboro, LA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 9th,2022. He left behind an amazing legacy of love and accomplishments. Roger was a strong Christian man that followed the Lord from an early age. A graduate of Louisiana Tech and Nichols State University, he was an amazing educator for many years who touched the lives of all of those he encountered whether in Houma, Atlanta, Dodson, or around Jackson Parish. He was a published author and served and led numerous state and national committees that focused on improving teaching and education across the country. Mr. Maxwell loved the art and science of teaching.
Throughout his life he had a huge heart for all kinds of exotic animals from miniature horses, to paint horses, to Zebu cattle and zebras. He loved spending time with his family, Alma his wife of 54 years and his sons Mitch and Cody and traveling around the country with the animals that were so dear to him.
Retirement from education was just an opportunity for Roger to spend more time doing what he loved along with embracing a new passion-acting. Roger’s highly accomplished achievements with horses and other animals allowed him the opportunity to participate in many film and movie productions from the local level to worldwide feature films including The Magnificent Seven. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Gladys Maxwell; brother Sonny C. Maxwell; sister Coylon Maxwell Castete.
Roger is survived by his wife Alma Sue Turner Maxwell; sons Mitchell W. Maxwell and wife Tina Maxwell and Cody C. Maxwell; one grandchild, Zane Maxwell.

Roger was the epitome of what a man should be-honest, hardworking, dedicated, respectful, wise, courageous, and compassionate. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
