Sadly, the world has said goodbye to a good, great, and godly man this week, Robert “Bobby” Mizell of Choudrant, LA.  He was a loving and deeply devoted husband to Carol Davis Mizell. They had an amazing, happy, and adventurous life together. He abundantly provided her needs physically and emotionally. She was his first and only love and they have celebrated over 60 wonderful years together.

He was a kind, funny, smart, and engaging father to Lisa and Kim. He was there for them. He provided for them plentifully as children. Then, later, as adults, they vacationed together. Traveled doing mission work together. And holidayed together. He was there!

Bobby was a successful and honest businessman in Lincoln Parish. Mizell Electric Service was a trusted name in our community. He did excellent work at a fair price. He retired young, and then had various adventures, including camp host at several campgrounds.

He was a God-fearing Christian who served as a deacon at Dayspring Baptist Ministries in Ruston, as well as Pleasant Grove Baptist and First Baptist in Choudrant. He was faithful to give financially, sing (and often was song leader), teach when needed and support the church family. He never caused any division or trouble in any church.

Bobby was a hunter, a traveler, an artist, song-writer and a wonderful singer. He used his talents to uplift the kingdom of God. He made people happy and was always, always a gentleman. He was good-natured and did not have a temper problem. He could fix anything that was broken. He was a people-person and very hospitable. He always opened his home up for friends and family. His Bible has enough personal notes to create his own commentary.

He is leaving this world and headed to a better place, not because he was so good, but because he accepted Christ as his personal Savior so many years ago. His wife has been loved and cared for, his children have been loved and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great, great grandchildren have a legacy for which they can be proud. The Mizell family name is respected because of who he was. We, the rest of us children, have a goodly heritage and will strive to make him smile a bit from heaven…. that is if he can take his eyes off of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 

Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nola Mizell; sisters, Mary Lou Walker, and Ruby Dison; and brothers, Fred Mizell and Richard Mizell.  

He is survived by his wife for over 60 years, Carol Davis Mizell; children, Lisa & Kenneth Weaver and Kim Mizell; grandchildren, April & Tim McKee; Len & Kim Weaver; Ariel & Amir Francis; Allen & Joy Weaver; Jim & Amber Weaver; Miles & Megan Siler; Hayden & Allison Johnson; Andrew Weaver; Joseph Weaver; and Reece Weaver; 23 – Great Grandchildren; 2-Great-Great Grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.  

Bobby’s service will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Dayspring Baptist Ministries.  Officiating the service will be Ken Weaver, Pastor.  Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Choudrant, LA.   

A visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until service time at Dayspring Baptist Ministries in Ruston, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes in Ruston, LA.
