Rev. Richard E. “Dick” Paige Kilpatrick Funeral Home Ruston, LA Born on March 29, 1931, in Mt. Vernon, New York, Bro. Dick Paige went home to his Savior and Father in Heaven on Sunday, September 26, 2010, in Ruston, LA. A celebration service will be held at 2:00 PM on September 30, 2010, at Cook Baptist Church with Rev. Oda “Tuck” Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Dick was predeceased by his parents and infant son, Andrew Phillip Paige. He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Mary; daughter: Lauren Law and husband Dan of Salamanca, N.Y; son: Richard E. Paige II of Ruston; son: David Paige and wife Kim of Kennesaw, GA; a heart son Lindsay Anderson and wife Donna of West Monroe, LA; grandchildren: Andrew Sadler, Leeanne Sadler, and Stephen Sadler of Salamanca, N.Y and three great grandchildren:: sisters: Lynn Werdal, Sandra McKenna, Tina Sabia, Casey Sokolik, and Donna Rose all of New York, Phyllis McNamara of South Carolina; one brother: Bill Paige of New York; sisters-in-law: Margaret Simpson and Edna Franklin of Ruston; and Barbara Kennimer of Houston; there are numerous nieces and nephews and a host of beloved church family members. Having joined the United States Air Force upon high school graduation, Dick was sent in 1955 to Ruston, LA on Operation Sagebrush, the largest peacetime maneuvers since World War II. By God's divine providence he met a Simsboro girl, Mary Belle Lee. They married in 1957 and together completed his 20 years of service, living in Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Canada, Alabama and Florida. During his Air Force tenure, Dick made quite a name for himself as a fast pitch softball pitcher, going all the way to Air Force World Championship in 1968, where one of his pitches was clocked at 102 MPH. He coached basketball teams for the Air Force and a College in North Bay Ont, Canada. He also coached a junior Canadian football team to a 246-6 season. North Bay gave him the “Key to the City” on his return to the states. Dick's final assignment was to Vietnam in 1970 for which he was awarded the Bronze Star. He was also exposed to Agent Orange for which he paid a bitter price in his later years. He came home to Ruston, retired and completed his degree at LA. Tech. He may have been the proudest Bulldog in existence. He also answered a longtime call from God, entering the pastoral ministry in 1971, and serving 38 years as a Southern Baptist Pastor. Active pallbearers will be Greg Franklin, Kip Franklin, Todd Franklin, Mike Collie, Mac Ward, Wayne Parks, Quincy Adams, and George Green. Honorary pallbearers will be all his fellow pastors and former deacons. Miss Mary expresses her deep gratitude to the myriads of christian friends whose prayers, calls, cards, and loving assistance helped her through these difficult days. Memorials may be made the Gideons or to your desired organization. Visitation for Bro. Dick will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. I am sadden to learn of the death of Bro. Dick. He was a great friend and a lot of help to me in the ministry. He always had a smile for everyone. I will never forget him and his love for the Lord. Mrs Mary you and the children are certainly in our prayers.I thank the Lord for letting my path take me down the road of life so that I could meet Bro. Dick.

Mary and Family - I read about Bro. Paige in the paper. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. He was such a wonderful Christian man and helped me so much when I lost Sammy so many years ago. He helped me deal with my loss and encouraged me as I attended NLU School of Nursing. He was loudly cheering alsong with Bro. Tuck as I received my BSN in May, l983. To the family, I just wanted to tell you how much I was impacted by "Bro. Dick and Mrs. Mary" as a teenage girl. There were many Pastors growing up as a girl but I remember a man who poured his life into a teenage girl. He always went with us on the mission trips to south Louisiana and how he loved us. He joked with us and just cared. I also, remember Mrs. Mary teaching us in Sunday School and how knowledgeable she was with here gracious and sweet personality. I know First Baptist Crowville was a better church because of your ministry. I will try to pattern our ministry as a Pastor's wife like Bro. Dick's and Mrs. Mary's and just care about the teenagers and children that I come into contact with in the churches in which we minister. Praying for your peace and comfort during this time of Bro. Dick's home-going. I love your family!

Brother Paige was an honorable, Godly man. He was the 1st to offer help when he knew someone had a need. He was pastor at a church here in West Monroe in 1993, when 2 of my children were babies. My daughter was attacked by a group of boys who pinned her down, beat her with their fists, while one boy bit her over a dozen times. Brother Paige helped me get my children placed into his churches daycare, in an emergency, even though there weren't any openings available. He also happens to be the much-loved father to my dearest friend, Lauren Law. He will be much-missed here, but I'm sure Heaven is rejoicing! My prayers, condolences, and heart-felt affection go out to each and every one of you.

I'm a friend of Lauren from Highland. I heard her dad preach a few times and always heard her speak about him and what a wonderful man of God he was. This world's loss is definately Heaven's gain! God Bless you all!

Mary & family, I wasn't prepared for seeing the obit for my friend, Dick Paige, in today's paper. I have many fond memories of my association with him as we worked together for the Northeast Louisiana Baptist Association when he was the moderator. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I was sorry to hear about Bro. Dick's passing. He was such a special man. I will be out of town on the day of his "celebration", but please know that my thoughts and prayer are with you and your family.

Mrs. Mary, Bro. Dick is my role model. I try to manifest the grace demonstrated in his life and ministry. Paul told his readers to imitate their leaders and consider the outcome of their lives. Bro. Dick serves as my mentor, what a gracious and kind example of our Lord he is. You know you are very special to me. My life is richer by far since the two of you became our friends and mentor. I love Bro. Dick. Far as I know he is the best Yankee ever! I sure will miss him eventhough I did not get to see much of you two lately. He and Joe Backus came by one evening after services when he was preaching close by. It sure was good to see him then. I know I will see him again, but until then I will miss him and treasure my blessings in knowing one of God's great gracious saints. I pray God's peace that passes undestanding into your sweet heart. When I lived in Louisiana, Bro. Paige helped me through one of the worst things to ever happen to me. He was with me through it all. He was one of the kindest men I have ever known. You will be missed Bro. Paige.

Dear Aunt Mary, It makes a lifelong impression on a litle girl when she gets to be flowergirl for her beautiful Aunt Mary and her handsome Dick. You know I have a special place in my heart for you and Uncle Dick. Every Southern family should be so lucky to have the most fantastic Yankee! I already miss him. I will pray that those wonderful 53 years will give you sweet memories as our Lord gives you comfort and helps you find some peace even as you grieve. I know how much you are saddened now because our world was a better place when he was here with us. But you and I know that heaven is much more fun now that he can play heavenly games of baseball and football with Andrew on his team! I was privileged to serve as Music Minister while Dick Paige was Pastor of Fair Park Baptist Church. He was more than my Pastor,He was a close personal friend. We had many good times sharing with others on the golf course and always sharing Jesus Christ with those around him. I will cherish the memories he left in my mind and look forward to seeing him again. Herb
