Rev. Jerry L. Adkins Funeral services for Rev. Jerry L. Adkins, age 79, of Ruston will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Ruston. Dr. Andrew Johnson, Dr. Chris Craig, and Dr. Rick Byargeon will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Rev. Adkins was born in Red River Parish, LA on April 20, 1931 and died in Ruston, LA on November 28, 2010. He graduated from Mississippi College and received his master's at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX . Rev. Adkins was a pastor and a Director of Missions with the Florida Baptist Convention from 1958 until 1994. Since 1994, Rev. Jerry has supplied or served as interim pastor in seventy-one churches and has led eighteen stewardship campaigns in the Louisiana Baptist Convention. He was truly a man who lived out his conviction to follow Christ and live a Godly life. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Ruston and was an avid golfer. Rev. Jerry is preceded in death by his wife Peggy Hancock Adkins. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Adkins Murphy and husband George of Ruston, LA; grandson, George Andrew Murphy of Baton Rouge, LA; granddaughters, Laura Ann Murphy of Ruston, LA and Melissa Ellen Murphy of Baton Rouge, LA; sisters, Bertie Mae Adkins Flenniken of Shreveport, LA; Gwendolyn Adkins Bernard of Lafayette, LA; and Marjorie Adkins Sandlin of Port Arthur, TX. Memorials may be made to Southern Baptist International Mission Board Lottie Moon Christmas Offering or Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Monroe, LA. Special gratitude is expressed to Dr. and Mrs. Andrew Johnson and the Happy Sojourners Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church in Ruston. Gratitude is also expressed to all the churches where Rev. Adkins served for their support and encouragement. Pallbearers will be Dorman “Buddy” Rogers, Dr. Ben Haley, Earvin Ryland, Ansel Winham, Lou Barber and Buddy Bradley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Terry Williams, Roland Campbell, Hugh Bernard, Gene Thornton and Bill Hagerman. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
