Philip Morris Doherty, 92, of Boerne, TX went to be with His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April, 5, 2022 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Philip was born on August 4, 1929 in Alexandria, Louisiana. He grew up in Vicksburg, Mississippi where he graduated high school in 1947.
In 1951 he joined the armed forces where he served in the Korean War. Later Philip became a successful store manager for W.T. Grant. His work led him to West Monroe, Louisiana where he met the love of his life, Marie Jordan (decd. 2020). They married in 1960 and eventually settled down in Abbeville, LA where they reared their two boys, John Kelly (1966) and Paul (1967). He owned and ran Abbeville Hardware and served as a deacon in the First Baptist Church.
Philip will be remembered as a wonderful father, loving husband, caring grandfather, and godly friend who had a great sense of humor, told the best stories, and lived life serving His Lord Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his son John Kelly Doherty (Arlene), his son Paul Lilbourn Doherty (Betsi); his 5 grandchildren Lauren Doherty, Madeline Postma-Doherty (Tylan), Michael Doherty (Amber), Matthew Doherty (Emmaline), and John Doherty.
He was preceded in death by his parents Philip Sample and Etha Ray Doherty; his sister Lura Ann Doherty-Strength-Antill; and his beloved wife of 60 years Marie Doherty-Jordan.
A visitation will be at Kilpatrick Funeral Home on Saturday, April 9th, 1321 North 7th Street, West Monroe, Louisiana 71291 at 1:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm. The graveside ceremony will follow at Aulds Chapel in Downsville, Louisiana.
