Pennie Mae Cummings McGrew, 87, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2010 after a short illness. Mrs. McGrew was preceded in death by her father, J.T. Cummings, Sr.; mother, Mittie Cummings; brother, J.T. Cummings Jr.; sisters, Iva Griffin, Edna Green, and Grace Lee. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lee Roy McGrew; son, Roy McGrew and wife Charlotte; daughter, Dianne Koontz and husband Robert; son, Danny McGrew and wife Connie. Grandchildren: Jim McGrew and wife Denna; Tim Koontz; Janet Mills and husband Jeremy; Jennifer Koontz; Stacey Hicks and husband Jeremie; Ryan McGrew. Great grandchildren: Jacob Koontz, Ethan McGrew, Mick Mills, Jenna McGrew, and Mason Mills. She is also survived by her sister, Marlene Greer and brother, Dwayne Cummings and wife Reba. Mrs. McGrew was born on April 1, 1923 in Ouachita Parish. During WWII, she began her work career at Selman Field as a “Rosie Riveter”. Later, she was employed at the Delta Department Store in downtown West Monroe. She ended her work career as a cafeteria manager at Riser Elementary and Junior High School after 20 years of service. She was a charter member of Brownville Methodist Church later known as the Asbury United Methodist Church in West Monroe. She was very active in the church and will be deeply missed by all the members. Pallbearers will be Donnie Cummings, Mike McGrew, Jim McGrew, Ryan McGrew, Jeremy Mills, and Jeremie Hicks. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Koontz, Jacob Koontz, Don McGrew, Chris Greer and Mickey Greer. Visitation will be held at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe, on Saturday, September 4, 2010 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Services will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church on Sunday, September 5, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. Rev. Johnny Hankins and Rev. Bo Horne will beofficiating. Following the service, the burial will be held at Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe.
