Mrs. Gage died Friday, Sept. 22, following a brief illness and is survived by her children: Bobby Gage and wife Becky of Hempstead, Texas; Ed Gage and wife Betty of Denville, New Jersey; and Patsy Gage Bentley and husband Mike of Magnolia, Arkansas; her brothers, John Robert Anthony and wife Alice of Dallas, TX and Dr. James R. She is preceded in death by her much beloved husband of 47 years, Rev. William Robert Gage. Following the death of her dear Robert in 1994, God soon sent her a canine companion, her much loved ¨Doggie, who was faithful and a constant in her life until his death. Born in Grand Saline, TX, she was a longtime member of Alabama Presbyterian Church and a current member of Alto Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Gage was a graduate of the University of Texas, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics and also studied microbiology and played bass violin in the university orchestra. At UT she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority and she continued that relationship to the present, including the chapter at Louisiana Tech. She was also a member and leader of the Girl Scouts of America for 60 years, leading troops in Winnfield, LA, for many years. In addition to being an artist, she was also a ¨stringer, reporting news events and human interest stories for many years for newspapers in Winnfield, Monroe, Ruston and Shreveport, LA. Additionally, she had numerous articles published in magazines of general interest, such as Mother Earth News and Organic Gardening. In the 1970s she conceived the idea of growing Christmas trees during the planned retirement of her husband and her in Lincoln Parish. Research on the subject was done by son Bobby at Louisiana Tech. In 1978, the Gages established the Homestead Hill Christmas Tree Farm, which for many years supplied Christmas trees to families in north Louisiana and southern Arkansas. While living at Homestead Hill, Mrs. Gage enjoyed beautiful scenery and numerous varieties of bird and animal wildlife as well as the magnificent sunsets from the very top of the ¨Hill from which Homestead Hill derives its name.
