Nancy Abney Barnes Westbrook Funeral services for Nancy Abney Barnes Westbrook will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 8, 2010 at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Ruston with The Reverend Edward Head and The Reverend James Benbrook officiating. Burial will take place at Pines Memorial Gardens and the family will receive friends at the Westbrook residence immediately following. Nancy Westbrook was born February 18, 1920 in Ruston, Louisiana, and was the oldest of the four Barnes girls. She passed from this life on October 6, 2010. Mrs. Westbrook was preceded in death by her husband Jasper Alton Westbrook, Colonel, USAF, ret.; her parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. H. Barnes; and her sisters, Betty Ruth Barnes Martin and Mary Holt Barnes Hamilton. Mrs. Westbrook graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1940. She will be remembered as the consummate hostess and gourmet cook who enjoyed life to its fullness. She will also be remembered for her generosity, her fun loving personality, her caring ways, and her love of life, family, friends, and pets. She is survived by one son, J. A. Westbrook Jr. of Edinburg, Texas; grandchildren, Billy Westbrook and Abbey Westbrook and great grandson, Bailey Westbrook, of Jacksonville, Florida; sister, Schumpert Barnes Jones and husband W. A. of Ruston; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be Dale Akers, Greg Hamilton, Schumpert Jones, Hap Martin, Dan O≠Neal, and Billy Westbrook. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 504 Tech Drive, Ruston, Louisiana or a charity of the donor≠s choice.
