Funeral services for Murdock M. Snelling, Jr., 80, of Monroe, LA will be Saturday, May 19, 2007 at St. Paul≠s United Methodist Church in Monroe, LA. Rev. Richard Humphries will be officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Monroe, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe, LA. Murdock M. Snelling, Jr., lived a life of service to God, Country, family, the City of Monroe and his fellow man. He was preceded death by a son: Forrest Turner Snelling. He is survived by Charlene Turner Snelling, his wife of 53 years and his children; Renee Kerr, Denise Hull, Allen Snelling and seven grandchildren. Murdock grew up in Gulfport, MS., the son of Dr. Murdock and Isabelle Snelling. In WWII he served as a paratrooper preparing for an airborne assault on Japan which was circumvented by their surrender. He was a Golden Gloves Boxer in the Army. He later served as an officer in the Korean conflict and as Major in the reserves. Murdock graduated from Tulane with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was a founder of the Tulane Engineering Society and was active throughout his career. He achieved licensing as a Mechanical Engineer through self study. In individual and corporate practice he was an accomplished innovator in structural design. Murdock served the City of Monroe as City Engineer for sixteen years. His work in the City≠s project planning process and flood control benefit the citizens of Monroe today. Murdock was a founder of Christian Community Ministries in Monroe who deeply cared for the City≠s homeless. He selflessly gave of his time and modest resources to fulfill God≠s charge to ¨feed my sheep. Upon retirement from the City, Murdock became ordained as a Methodist minister and served St. Paul≠s Methodist and rural churches in Baskin and Oakridge as a lay minister. He also authored a synopsis of the Gospels. Throughout the lives of his children, Murdock taught by word and example to love one another and seek to do God≠s will in their lives. Pallbearers will be: Hugh Keating, Dr. Scott Zentner, Turner Kerr, Aaron Snelling, Ed Dayton, and Allen Snelling. Memorials may be made to Christian Community Ministries or Parkinson≠s Research Associates. Visitation will be Saturday, May 19, 2007 from 1:00 PM until the time of service at 2:00 PM.
