Mrs. Katherine Kay Schubert, age 72, passed away 2/15/23 after a lengthily illness. A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at The Bridge Church in Ruston, La, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Visitation will be from 1-2 PM at the church with the services beginning at 2 P.M. Graveside services will immediately follow at Antioch Cemetery in Simsboro, La.
Kathy was born 7/14/51 in McCook, Nebraska, but spend the majority of her life in Simsboro, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Schubert, sister Susan Terrell, mother Marie Terrell, and, father Lester Terrell. She is survived by her son, David Schubert and his wife Yuri Schubert of Teneha, Texas, son John Tabor of Simsboro La, son Dan Schubert and his partner Nikkie McDermott of Palmer, Alaska, daughter Jennifer Schubert of West Monroe, La, and son Andrew Schubert and wife Jennifer of Norfork, Arkansas. She is also survived by grandchildren Nicole Biggs of West Monroe, La, Danielle Schubert of Mt. View, Arkansas, Kristina Schubert of Anchorage, Alaska and Wesley Schubert of Palmer, Alaska. As well, Kathy is survived by her great- grandchildren Jack and Charles Biggs of West Monroe, La. as well as brother James Terrell of Simsboro, La.
She spent her life caring for others both inside and outside her immediate family. As a nurse, she wore many hats, not the least of which were professor of nursing at both Louisiana Tech University and Grambling State University. She served in the United States Air Force, leaving the service as Major Katherine Schubert. She ran the nursing department at England Air Force base as her last full time military job. She trained countless nurses in the profession and was admired by her students and peers. She and her husband traveled a great deal in their retirement despite many physical issues, and always looked at her children and family with great joy. The smile of joy she displayed when greeting people was loving, genuine, and those who received it could not help but feel that they were loved. There is no doubt that this world is a better place because God placed Kathy in it. She will be greatly missed.
Pallbearers will be David Schubert, Justin Biggs, John Tabor, Daniel Schubert, Andrew Schubert, and Eric Harrison.
Memorial donations may be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital.
