Funeral services for M. Brents Witty, Jr., 84 of West Monroe, LA will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 27, 2011 at McClendon Baptist Church West Monroe. Rev. James Gardner will be officiating. Interment will follow at Hasley Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Brents was born December 11, 1926 in Hamilton, Texas to Milton Brents Witty, Sr. and Kathryne Baker Witty. He went home to be with his Lord on Friday, June 24, 2011 at StoneyBrook Memory Care Home in West Monroe, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Michael Scott Witty, mother of his children Avis G. Witty, brother Charles N. Witty, and sisters Kathryne Witty Nelson and Anne Witty Olmsted. Brents is survived by his wife of over 35 years Janet Antley Witty, son Milton B. Witty, III, daughter Kathleen Witty Mitchell and husband Jim Mitchell, step-son Paul Jason Little and wife Annette, grandchildren Brant Mitchell and wife Amy, Meg Mitchell Sanks and husband Michael, Abbie Mitchell, Bristen Witty, Brelynn Witty, and Ryne Michael Little, great-grandchildren Grace, Caden and Emily Mitchell, and Naomi and Abraham Sanks. Brents graduated from LSU in Mechanical Engineering and went to work for the telephone company. He soon learned that he did not like being behind a desk every day. He went into the insurance business and worked for major insurance companies until he retired at age 80. He was a Chartered Life Underwriter, Life Member of the Million Dollar Round Table. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He was an active member of the Rotary Club for many years and the Wildlife Federation. His greatest love was working with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a leader of a Boy Scout troop and a board member on the Council. He received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America for his distinguished service to the Council and community. He served his country in World War II in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. He loved his country and his family. Special thanks to StoneyBrook Memory Care Home and Premier Hospice who provided excellent care of him. Pallbearers will be Brant Mitchell, Michael Sanks, Todd McGuffee, Wade Bishop, Joe Allbritton, and Grant Bamburg. Honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday School Class. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Contributions may be made to McClendon Baptist Church Children's Building or the charity of your choice.
