Roderick Michael Mike Pylant Kilpatrick Funeral Home Ruston, LA A celebration of Roderick Michael Mike Pylant's life will be held Friday, April 15, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church in Vienna, LA with Bro. Bill Reid and Bro. Oda “Tuck” Roberts officiating. Mike was born on January 2, 1950 in Ruston, LA to Dhuett and Leo Pylant. He won his battle with cancer when he was called home on April 12, 2011 by his Lord and Savior. Mike fought his battle with great faith, courage, strength, and grace surrounded by his family. Mike was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a greeter, usher, and early morning coffee maker. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Dhuett Pylant; brother-in-law, Hank Goforth; and sister-in-law, Debbie Pylant. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 33 years. Judy; son, Roderick Michael Pylant, Jr Christy: daughter, Annette Veillon Randy: brothers: Reagan Pylant Delaine, and Tommy Pylant; sisters, Sandra Leggett Woody and Debra Hollinger Ed. He is also survived by sisters- in-law, Brenda Smiley and Carla Sandifer Jimmy and a very special friend and mentor, James Kilgore. Mike also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and many good friends. Pallbearers will be members of his Sunday School class: Steve Colvin, David Gullege, Alan Hart, Terry Johnston, Jim McMallum, and Darrel Newsom. Honorary pallbearers will be: F.J. Armond, Jerry Fuller, Frank Hover and Richard Jones. Special Thanks to Drs. Manish Dhawan and William Zollinger and their staff for the excellent care given to Mike and also to Hospice of Caring Hearts who enabled Mike's last days to be spent at the home he loved. Also special thanks to all area churches who have so faithfully prayed for Mike and family this year. Visitation will be Thursday April 14, 2011 from 5-8 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston with interment at New Hope Baptist Cemetery in Choudrant, LA. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, the New Hope Cemetery Fund or the Cancer Foundation League @ 411 Calypso Monroe, LA. Judy and family, First so sorry for the loss of your beloved husband, father,brother,grandfather, and friend. What a wonderful celebration and testimony at his funeral today. It has to be comforting knowing how many lives he touched and how he was loved. Will keep all of you in our prayers.

Judy just a couple of years ago, you & Mike shared time with me @ the hospital waiting room while Tommy was with Debbie. This is Aunt Mary in Tucson. I will NEVER forget the sincere love Mike showed to everyone he met. I will always remember him with fondness and I know that he'll be heaven's greeter! I can see him now! I just read a verse this morning 'God is our refuge and his arms are underneath us'...I'm sure that's 'betty-paraphrased' but it's a great comfort to know he's got you covered! love you so much!

May God's peace be with all of you. It is a shame that with our parents gone, we cousins have not seen each other in so many years. However, it is still with sadness that I learned of Mike's death.

Judy, Michael, Annette and extended families, we feel your pain and share your loss. As Christians it is most comforting to know without any shadow of a doubt that Mike is now in the presence of a love so infinite that those of us that he departed from cannot completely comprehend. Mike, because of his faith in Jesus, has defeated death, and we shall see him again in that wonderful place called Heaven. Mike has fulfilled God's plan for his life. What a glorious promise God made us. We are not saying goodbye to Mike, we are saying, "See you later good husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor." Our prayers are with you all. We choose to remember Mike for being quick to greet others with a smile and handshake or hug.Though he will be greatly missed take comfort in knowing that just as Lazrus was found in Abraham's bosom so Mike will be in the bosom of the Lord, free from the suffering of this world and waiting for us until we can join him there.
