Funeral services for Michael Young of West Monroe will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, January 26, 2024 at First Baptist Church-Feazel Chapel with Rev. Michael Wood officiating. Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow at Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Michael was born January 9, 1966 in Shreveport, La and passed away at his home in West Monroe surrounded by family on January 23, 2024.
Mike was an amazing husband and father, son, brother, friend and uncle. He was a faithful member of First West Church and orchestra. He loved his family and his church. Mike was a warrior who fought a long hard battle and now he is in the arms of his loving Father. He was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan.
Michael was a bandsman and talented saxophone player. After learning to play in Junior High, Mike later became a member of the Bossier High School band, the Sound of Today marching band at NLU, the 156th Army National Guard Band and First West orchestra which he dearly loved. He proudly served in the LA Army National Guard. After joining out of high school and serving throughout college, Mike later re-enlisted and served until he retired in 2019. During his service he received the following medals: Army Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal W/ Campaign Star/Army Service Ribbon/Overseas Service Ribbon/Armed Forces Reserve Medal. Mike is preceded in death by his father Ronald Young; brother, Dwayne Young; mother-in-law, Ruby Ainsworth; grandparents, Herbert and Catherine Adams, Guy and Anna Young and step-brothers, Gerald Stevenson and Greg Stevenson.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Patricia; sons Nicholas and Matthew; mother Loye Stevenson and step-father Wayne; sisters Susan Young and Tina Johnson and husband Chris; numerous nieces and nephews and his very special dog, Easton.
Serving as pallbearers will be Shelby Ainsworth, Jeff Glover, Bill Lambert, Jon Robinson, Jerry Brasher and Ron Camp.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
