Michael Joseph Hakakaikookalani Holbron Sr. On July 28th Heaven welcomed, 73 year old, teriyaki cooking, prime rib roasting, grill master, swim instructor, softball and baseball coach, and #1 Dallas Cowboy fan, Michael Joseph Hakakaikookalani Holbron Sr.Little did he know when he left Hawaii at the age of 17 upon enlisting in the Air Force he would meet and marry the love of his life, Janice. After dating for only three weeks, their love affair would endure 50 1/2 years and produce 5 wonderful kids and 14 grandchildren that were all a source of immense joy and pride, where they reside in Choudrant, Louisiana.After serving 8 years in the Air Force as a military policeman he embarked on a career path into insurance where he formed many lifelong friendships and retired after almost 25 years of service from Farm Bureau Insurance.Mike was a devout Catholic and regularly prayed the Rosary daily and before the 4 pm Saturday Mass at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Monroe, Louisiana.He will be fondly remembered for hosting the annual New Year's Eve party, with eye popping fireworks. Also for his strong morals and work ethic he demonstrated and for passing on the importance of family and responsibility to his children. He demonstrated discipline in all aspects of his life and was fiercely grounded to his Hawaiian heritage and culture, including his morning ritual of listening to Hawaiian music, grilling teriyaki for most occasions, and eating white rice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.While it was feared to be the recipient of, the family will all miss his trademark, attention getting, fear inducing, sound of him clearing his throat that made the hair stand up on the back of your neck.Mike was welcomed into heaven by his beloved grandson, Derek, his brother, Reggie, and his parents.He is survived by his wife, Janice; his sisters Lynette Embry and Naira Martin; brother, Ken Holbron; his sons Mike and wife JoEllen, John and wife Tina, Christopher, and Shel; his daughter Malia and husband JD Driskill; 13 grandchildren; and Nicole Kessler.We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the staff at Glenwood Regional Medical Center CVT and CV-ICU.In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. with a vigil at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, Louisiana. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 2, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Monroe, Louisiana. Officiating will be Father Mark Franklin of St. Matthew.
