Mary Elizabeth Thomas Staggs was born on April 5, 1920, in Pounding Mill, Virginia and went home to her Savior Jesus Christ on April 25, 2023, in Delhi, LA.
Mrs. Staggs and her husband A W “Bill” Staggs Sr, owned and operated a chain of service stations in north Louisiana and eastern Texas in the 50’s and early 60’s and then owned and operated Staggs Discount Auto Parts in West Monroe, LA. She was a veteran of WW II and served from 1944 to 1949 in the US Army Nurse Corp and achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant. She was stationed in the Philippines and post-war Tokyo, Japan.
Mrs. Staggs was preceded in death by her father, Claude F. Thomas Sr, her mother, Elva J. Thomas, her brothers, Claude F. Thomas Jr, George R. Thomas, sister, Edna Beavers, husband, Ardell William “Bill” Staggs Sr, and her son, Ardell William “Bubba” Staggs Jr.
Mrs. Staggs is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Ann House and Frank House, daughter-in-law Dina Staggs, granddaughter, Candi Brooks, grandsons, Jacob Staggs, A J Staggs, great grandson, Ryan Petersen, great granddaughter, Jaidyn Staggs.
The family is especially grateful for the care provided by Dr. Corey Albritton and the staff of Deerfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Crossroads Hospice.
Pallbearers include Chet Tidwell, Andrew Staggs, Randy Branch, Byron Thomas, George Thomas and Mark Green.
Funeral services for Mary will be held at 3:30 P.M., Sunday, April 30, 2023 in the chapel of Kilpatrick’s Funeral Home. Brother John Skinner will officiate and interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 2:30P.M. until 3:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
