Mary Jane passed away on August 19, 2010 at her home in West Monroe after a courageous battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her husband JC “RED” Munholland; son, Michael Glen Munholland; parents Dempsey and Nellie McKnight; sisters, Hazel Marie Washington and Florence Ruth McKnight; and brothers, Richard “Dickey” McKnight, Pete McKnight, John McKnight and Herman McKnight. She is survived by her son Tony Munholland and wife Jo of West Monroe; daughters, Cleta Munholland of West Monroe and Debbie Sturdivant and husband Steve of West Monroe; grandchildren, Josh Munholland and wife Robin, Cody Munholland, Jacob Munholland, Haley Sturdivant, Jony Munholland and Cheston Sturdivant all of West Monroe; one great-grandchild, Cayson Munholland of West Monroe; sisters, Lucinda Lingefelt of Bastrop, Nancy Whitney of Florida, and Alice Tyner of Washington; sister-in-law, Ardell Norris of Mississippi; brothers-in-law, George Washington and wife Helen of Monroe and Nonnie Crenshaw of Bastrop; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Mary Jane was born and raised in Richland Parish and married the love of her life Red Munholland on January 27, 1961. Soon after they married, they moved to West Monroe and began building their family as well as a business. For many years she worked side by side with her husband establishing and growing the business now known as Munholland Tree Service. She continued to run the office until her retirement in 2002. Mary Jane's life was centered around her family. She loved to cook and to have all of her kids and grandkids sit at her table and eat. She worshipped her grandchildren and took much pleasure in feeding and spoiling them. No one ever left her house hungry or sad. She was quick to laugh and always ready for a game of marbles. Her heart was enormous and her generosity knew no bounds. For several years, Mary Jane and Red served as foster parents. They fostered, sheltered, loved, nurtured and forever touched the lives of over 100 children in and around Ouachita Parish. They received many honors and rewards for opening their home as well as their hearts to children in need. A lasting testimony to her devotion are the many phone calls, cards, and visitors she receives from all over the country every year on Mother's Day. The family wishes to thank Dr. Sean Stockstill, Dr. Keith White and Philip Miller, and Dr. Barry Weinberger for their excellent care of our mother. A special thanks to “Aunt Lulu” who stayed and cared for her many nights the past 10 months. Pallbearers are Josh Munholland, Jacob Munholland, Cody Munholland, Steve Sturdivant, David Durbyn, and Marvin Wink. Honorary pallbearers are George Washington and Nonnie Crenshaw. Her family deeply grieves her passing, but rejoices in the knowledge that she is with her Lord and Savior as well as the ones she loved so dearly who have gone on before her. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, August 21st at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com.
