Obituary for Alice Heard Graveside funeral services for Ms. Alice Heard will be held Friday, October 12, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Officiating will be Reverend Andy Hurst. Alice was born August 18, 1928 in Ruston and passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at her home in Monroe after a brief illness. Alice grew up in Ruston and graduated from Ruston High School. She then attended Louisiana State University and Louisiana Tech University where she attained a degree in Fine Arts in 1950. She taught art at Southfield School in Shreveport and later became the first female art instructor at the University of Louisiana, Monroe. She married John C. Morris, Jr. of Rayville and from this union four sons were born who were the love of her life. Besides her sons, her greatest love was art. She was an accomplished painter having won several awards for her work, which had a unique and recognizable style. Alice was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Mayme Cargill Heard of Ruston. Alice is survived by her sons, Jay Morris and his wife, Emily, of Monroe, Raymond Heard Morris of Monroe, Richard A. ¨Al Morris of Atlanta, Georgia, and Lee Cargill Morris of Monroe and her grandchildren, John C. Morris IV, Ashley Elizabeth Morris, and Carrie Jefferies Morris. She is also survived by her sisters, Carrie Lee Link and her husband, George Link, of Monroe and Priscilla Heard Bowman of Ruston as well a niece, four nephews and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Alice will be remembered for her friendly and engaging personality, her wit, her unique and eccentric ways, her love of art, and her love for her four sons. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice.
