Anthony and Cherri Gregoire left a message on June 26, 2020:
My dearest Debbie. My heart broke when I heard this news. I know you and I have known each other since the late 1980’s. I always felt like I knew Mark, even before I met him. You talked about Mark all of the time and kept a picture of him in Hematology at Bayou Lab. My first semester at NLU, I was taking inorganic chemistry I. I remember the class was taught by a professor that smelled his markers all the time. (Funny how things stand out in one’s mind at a time like this) Everyday I stared and stared at this guy. I found a familiarness about him but could not place it. I remember finally one day getting up the courage and walking up to him and telling him I felt I knew him but did not where from. I remember he was very standoffish, as he probably thought I was flirting, and he was having no part of it! Eventually, after a few times persisting That I knew him and racking my brain, he asked you about me and you were able to put the pieces together. He was Mark from 8-10 years earlier. He was your boyfriend you always talked about and I remembered him from the polaroid picture in Hematology. I would never forget you, and others from Bayou Lab, as I was sick while I worked there and all of you were so supportive. I eventually married Anthony and moved to South LA. Somehow, you and Mark tracked me down and you both began to make regular phone calls to Anthony and I. Every few weeks on a Sunday afternoon we would call each other. I do wish we had continued. My heart is breaking for both you and your son. My heart is breaking because I always felt a true friendship with you both. The kind of friendship that last a lifetime even if you lose contact over the years. You were both so in love back then and that time we stayed close are memories Anthony and I will always cherish. Mark was alway such a kind and generous person. Oh, he actually did begin to talk at college and laugh. We graduated together and that is another memory that I will cherish. I love you forever my friend. I love you and my heart is breaking?
