Memorial services for Marion Gist will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 in the Burkhalter Chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church where Mrs. Gist was a member since 1953. The services will be conducted by Reverend Gary Willis and Reverend Rolly Walker under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Conway, AR at a later date.Marion was born on September 3, 1920 in Chicago and grew up in Joliet, IL. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, and a charter member of Lydia Circle. She was a hospital Auxiliary member for 29 years. Marion enjoyed membership in her Thursday Bridge Club and the Littera Club.Preceding her in death were her husband of 62 yrs., Jim H. Gist, parents, Max and Celia Klein, sisters, Ruth Logan and Irene Onofrey, and her brother, Dr. Samuel Klein, his wife, Billie J. Klein, and a niece, Nancy Onofrey. Surviving are her beloved family: son, David Gist, of New Orleans, LA and daughter, Barbara, and son-in-law, Malcolm McCown, of Colorado Springs, CO. She was Gram to granddaughter, Allison McCandless and husband, Sean, and great-grandchildren, Faith, Jonathan, Gabriel, and Noah McCandless. Also surviving are nine nieces and nephews, Cassandra Umeri, mom devoted helper and companion for years, and many caring friends.Prior to her marriage in 1943, Marion accepted a transfer from her work in a defense plant in Willmington, IL to Oak Ridge, TN. Stone and Webster Engineering Corp were the builders of the atom bomb there. She was secretary in their accounting office and came upon many invoices with U235 on them. Of course, at that time, it meant nothing to her and others. In Ruston, Marion worked part time at the downtown former location of Trinity Church. In 1969, she started to work in the Admissions Office of LA Tech. She retired in 1983.Her family would like to sincerely thank the steadfast support, friendship, and loving attention of many kind friends.
