She died on October 31, 2010 in Ruston, LA following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, T.J. Smith, and her six brothers and one sister. She is survived by her son, Tommy Smith and wife Pat of Ruston; granddaughter Laura Ann Smith; grandson Trey Smith and wife Adrianne and great-grandchildren Thomas, Hilton, and Camille Smith, all of Ruston. Marie attended Mississippi State College For Women until she and T.J. eloped on June 2, 1940. In 1945, they moved to Ruston where they started Motor Parts Service Company. A member of Temple Baptist Church since 1945, Marie was a faithful member of Missionary Roundtable, her Church Circle, and Sunday School Class. She also enjoyed volunteering for over 20 years as a pink lady for the Ladies Auxiliary at Lincoln General Hospital. Most of all, she was a devoted wife, loving mother, and wonderful grandmother. Pallbearers will be Trey Smith, Vence Smith, Jr., Dr. Carl Davis, Donny Sanders, Dave Crawford, and Mitch Killingsworth. Honorary pallbearers are Thomas Smith, Hilton Smith, Bruce Cowan, Charles Hoffman, and Doug Maulden. Our family would like to express special thanks to Ms. Ruby Franks for her loving care of our mother and grandmother during her stay in the hospital. Thanks also to sitters Shantelle, Shundricka, Cassandra, Katena, and Lameka. Many thanks as well to Dr. Billy Smith, Dr. Sheila Mariano, and friends at The Russ House. In lieu of flowers, any planned memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church, St. Jude's Childrens Hospital, or the charity of one's choice. “Faith's morn shall come when He, our Lord and Maker, shall claim His own that slumber in God's acre.”
