Marguerite Wilder GarrettRuth (Marguerite) Wilder Garrett was born in Winnfield on March 25, 1919. She passed away on October 13, 2015. She is survived by her only child, Linda Garrett Wallace, and husband, Samuel G. Wallace (Ruston); grandson, Jeffrey S. Simmons (Houston); grandson, Christopher B. Simmons and wife Melissa (Houston); and great-grandchildren Elyse Suzanne Simmons and Thomas Garrett Simmons.Visitation will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church of Ruston on Thursday October 15, 2015 from 2:00-3:00 PM with a celebration of life service at 3:00 PM in the Burkhalter Chapel of Trinity. The service will be led by Reverend Gary Willis, Senior Pastor.\tShe was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Rev. Roy Lee Garrett; her parents Herman and Avice Walsworth Wilder; and her sister, Mary Louise Wilder Collins.Marguerite was a 1938 honor graduate of Louisiana Polytechnic Institute, served in the United States Navy in WWII, and attended Centenary College with her husband from 1949-1953. She spent her life doing God work in many endeavors and places. She and Roy served in United Methodist churches in Milstead, GA., Shreveport, Alexandria, Coushatta, Jonesville, Lafayette, New Orleans, and Leesville. She directed church choirs, played the organ and piano, taught Sunday school, served many positions in the W.S.C.S. and the United Methodist Women, and made weekly visitsto nursing homes. She was an elementary school teacher. She was passionate about seeing that all her students received the best instruction possible. She saw potential in every child, and she loved them dearly.Marguerite loved to travel and was nick named Go, Go. She traveled to all 50 states and visited more than 20 countries around the world. Her favorite trips were those to the Holy Land because she used the knowledge she gained to teach many Sunday school lessons about Jesus Christ.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christian Community Action of Ruston, the College of Education Scholarship Fund at Louisiana Tech University, or the Trinity United Methodist Church scholarship fund for graduating seniors.Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com
