Mrs. Maralliese “Billie” Root was born August 3, 1918, in Alexandria, LA and passed away December 7, 2010 in Calhoun, LA. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Bayou Desiard Country Club, Ladies Golf Association and Ladies Auxiliary at St. Francis Hospital. Billie was a loving wife, as well as a devoted mother and grandmother. She lived to play golf and loved to travel with friends. She spent time in Southern California. In her younger years, while visiting Monroe, she met her husband, Bert Root, and called Monroe her home thereafter. Family and friends will always remember her for her poetry. She is survived by daughters; Nancy Root Shirley and her husband, Ros and Jane Root Simpson; granddaughters, Stephanie Shirley, Nancy Laughlin and Lisa Trosper; grandsons; Clayton Shirley and Bobby Trosper; 4 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert Charles Root, Jr. Pallbearers will be Clayton Shirley, Bobby Trosper, Hershell Howell, Michael Ferrington, Sean Vines and Lisa Trosper. Visitation will be held 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of West Monroe, LA. Funeral services for Mrs. Maralliese “Billie” Root, age 92 of Calhoun, LA will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 9, 2010, in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of West Monroe. Officiating will be Rev. Allison Moody. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Monroe under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of West Monroe.
