Funeral services for Lynda Janan Glass, n©e Ebarb, will be held on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Swartz First Baptist Church, Monroe, Louisiana, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes, Monroe, Louisiana. The Reverends Aaron Dickenson and Ron Thomas, along with Jon Glass will officiate. Interment will follow at Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Rayville, Louisiana, followed later with a private service for the family. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M., Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Swartz First Baptist Church. Also Monday, September 16 from 9:00 A.M until 11:00 A.M. at Swartz First Baptist Church.Janan was born on May 24, 1942 in Plainview, Texas and died on Thursday, September 12, 2019 in Monroe, Louisiana. She died of complication of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma after a long and courageous battle.A true Daughter of Texas, Janan grew up in Harlingen, Texas, and graduated from Harlingen High School in 1960. She was installed as Worthy Advisor Order of the Rainbow for Girls in 1960 as well.On September 3, 1960 Janan married a young Second Lieutenant from Louisiana, James Theo Glass, recently graduated from the USAF Aviation Cadet Program in Navigation. From Harlingen, they started their lives together living in California, Germany, Colorado, Nebraska, Harlingen, San Antonio, and Dallas before finally settling in Monroe, Louisiana in 1971. Jim and Janan just recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.Janan worked in retail management in a number of positions including contracting sales, sales management, Human Resources & Training and as Display Manager. She worked for Stein Mart. McRae and Sears all in Monroe.An accomplished pianist and church musician, Janan studied with Ada Reid Bracht making her debut solo recital on piano and organ at age 14. Janan was a Gold Star Texas state winner of The Piano Guild (now the National Guild of Piano Teachers) in 1956. She was a member of honorary music society, Gamma Lambda of Texas. Janan attended the St. Louis Institute of Music in St. Louis, Missouri, and the Biedenharn School of Music at Northeast Louisiana University, now known as The University of Louisiana Monroe. She was the pianist at Swartz First Baptist Church for 34 years. Janan taught piano for a number of years including at Swartz Elementary & Junior High. She also was a former member of the Monroe Symphony Chorus.More than anything, Janan considered her ambition to be for a family as a wife and mother. She was the mother of twin boys, James and Jon, and a daughter, Stephanie. Janan welcomed James wife, Patricia, into the family. Janan had a grandson, James Tyler and a granddaughter, Nancy; and a great-grandson, James Jaxen. Recently, Janan welcomed Tyler wife, Emily, and two more great grandchildren, Jayme and Tristen.Janan was a long-standing member of Swartz FBC who served in many roles. She taught Sunday School for many years. Janan was more than just a teacher to her class. The ladies in her class thrived from her attention as comforter, encourager, friendship and ministry.Janan was highly creative, well-read, gracious, kind, known for her quick wit, crazy humor and ready laugh. She was an accomplished amateur painter and an avid photographer. Janan was known for her exuberance and passion in celebrating any and every holiday. She loved going to the opera and to Broadway when visiting New York City. Janan loved to travel seeing Mexico, Costa Rica, India, much of Europe, Canada and all 50 of the United States of America. Janan loved playing bridge, Tex-Mex, all things chicken decor and was known to be willing to take you down for the last of the gravy!Survivors include her husband, James Theo Glass of Monroe; son James A. Glass, and wife Patricia of Bedford, Texas; son Jon Glass of New York, NY; and daughter, Stephanie Hensler of Malmo, Sweden; grandson, James Tyler Glass, and wife Emily of Haltom City, Texas, along with great grandchildren, James Jaxen Glass, Jayme Ferry and Tristen Ferry; and granddaughter, Nancy Mays of Wisner, Louisiana. Janan is also survived by her sister-in-law Ann Sargent (Bill) of Harrisonburg, Louisiana, and brother-in-law, Sidney Glass (Donna) of Longview, Texas. She is also survived by her sister-in-friendship, Donna Strickland (Hollis) of West Monroe, Louisiana. Janan had a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins. She was well-loved as Aunt Nan.Janan was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin Dewey Ebarb, DC, and Etta Mae Ebarb; her siblings Al Ebarb and Janice Danek; father-in-law, James Elmo Glass; mother-in-law, Vera Dumas Glass; sister-in-law, Melva Grace Glass Cerny; and daughter-in-law, Angela Mays Glass.Our family wishes to express gratitude for the care and compassion provided by the healthcare staff of St. Francis Medical Center; Northeast Louisiana Cancer Institute and Ross E.
