Louis Christel “Chris” Hattaway was born on July 31, 1946 in Monroe, LA to Webster Odom and Marie E. Barns Hattaway. On his granddaddy’s birthday, whom he spent much of his childhood hunting and learning life’s skills, he was promoted to Heaven’s Selfless “On Call” Angel on Saturday, March 25, 2023 in his home in Calhoun, LA after a brief illness. He was a member of First Baptist Church Calhoun, LA.
Chris’ working career led him to the service of providing for others. He took care of and supervised public water systems. He has done everything from laying the initial pipes to the accounting of amount of water used and everything in between.
Chris was a fantastic teacher (so patient and kind) whether at work or at home. He reached out and touched the lives of others through his work and the many activities he was involved with his family. He coached ball teams with his children and was instrumental with the construction of the Calhoun Ball Park. He was very involved in the Boy Scout program with his boys and many other children. He served as Den Leader, Club Master and on the Leadership Team area of the Boy Scouts. He was a very active band parent with the West Ouachita Band and was always encouraging the children and doing various things to help along the way.
Chris loved camping with his family, water sports, hunting and horse riding. He was so happy and proud of teaching his daughter and granddaughters to ride and compete. He especially enjoyed being a member of Northeast LA Barrel Racing Association and several riding clubs and participating in the play days. After retiring he continued to enjoy the outdoors with his tractor, cutting trees, chopping wood, basically enjoying his love of his land, with his granddaughter Christal, by his side all the way. They were hunting buddies as well as horse riding companions/competitors. Chris was active in all his activities right up until his brief illness of Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer.
