Lorene Townsend

A celebration of life for Ms. Lorene (Nolan) Townsend, 93, will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2021 From 3:30 P.M. until 5:30 P.M. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home~Monroe. Graveside services will be on Monday, February 1, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Ouachita City Cemetery in Sterlington, LA.  Bro. Norman Bryant will be officiating.

Lorene Townsend was born to the union of James and Mattie (Stokes) Nolan on January 27, 1928 in Spencer, LA and passed to her “heavenly home” on January 28, 2021.

She attended Linville High School, where she enjoyed playing basketball.  After graduation, Lorene started her life’s journey to work at International Paper Company in Bastrop, LA where she met her “soul mate”, Leonard B. (Buddy) Townsend of Oak Grove, LA.  As true love would have it, they were married March 12, 1946.  They started their journey together in Bastrop, LA and started their family.  In 1958, I.P.C. transferred them to Litchfield, IL.  The family was raised and in 1968 they were transferred to Camden AR.  In 1977 they were transferred to Wilmington OH, looking for retirement in a few years.  They were able to visit Niagra Falls for a “second honeymoon”.  Unfortunately, Buddy passed away on July 19, 1981.  Lorene, with a “broken heart”, moved to Monroe, LA to be close to her children and siblings.

Lorene’s health was still good so she worked as a cashier at Kroger’s until retirement.  Her home life consisted of crewel work, raising a garden (with tomatoes), mowing her own yard and tending her raised flower beds.  Through the years, she helped out with Bible school at Rowland Road Baptist Church in Monroe, LA. where she became a member in the early 1980’s.  She loved her family, church family and neighbors.  She also loved her Lord and Savior.  She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, “Maw-Maw” and  Great-Maw-Maw.

Lorene was preceded in death by: Leonard (Buddy) Townsend; parents: James and Mattie (Stokes) Nolan; all her siblings; granddaughters: Amy E. Townsend and Elyse Webber.

Left to live to carry on her (and Buddy’s) legacy is her son, Leonard Wayne (Marcella) Townsend of Oxford, AL; daughters; Janis (Robert) Webber of Monroe, LA and Carolyn J (Jerry) Honeycutt of West Monroe, LA .

Grandchildren: Craig(Amy) Honeycutt, Casey Honeycutt, both of West Monroe, LA, Kelly (Tim) Hearn of Wolfe City, TX, Tara Webber of Monroe, LA, Seth (Lindsey)Webber of Ft. Worth, TX, Kevin (Trina)Townsend of GA, Nicole (Derry) Crawford, Heather (Trey) Forbus, Megan Townsend, Caitlin (Pepper) Brooks and Kyle Townsend, all of AL.

Great- grandchildren: Gavin, Caleb, Landon, Colton Honeycutt of West Monroe, LA; Addison (Addie) and Logan Hearn of Wolfe City, TX; Shane Johnson, Austin Williams, Amillia Nickels, Ronen, Zelie B. Crawford of AL.

Honorary pallbearers are Malvern Lewis, Keldrick Johnson, and Donald Lovelady.

The family would like to express deepest appreciation for the outstanding care and support given to their loved one; Drs. Long, Sharma, Hixson;  L. Erwin,NP and hospice RN, Amy.
