Affectionately called Polly, Lela Pauline Wimberly was born on April 5, 1916 in Morris, Oklahoma and passed from this life on July 31, 2007 in Ruston, Louisiana after a lengthy illness. The seventh of eight children born to Robert Leonard and Nancy Ann Jones Wimberly, Polly graduated from Tulsa OK High School in 1933 and received two years of college at Tulsa University and the University of Oklahoma. Polly married Woodrow Wilson Flournoy in 1935 and they had two sons, Robert Wilson Flournoy and Richard Lee Flournoy. The family lived in Tulsa, OK and later moved to Dallas, TX. As a young mother, she went with her sons to Sunday School and worship, bringing them into a knowledge of the Christian faith. She was active in the church choir and women≠s groups. She loved baseball and even served as coach for her son≠s baseball teams. While in Dallas she was employed as a representative for Frances Denny Cosmetic Company and traveled a 10 state region. Polly married Roy Lee Harding in 1974 and moved to Abilene, TX. She was active in community clubs and served as president of the Abilene Oil Wives, Slipper Dance Club, Minuet Dance Club, and as a member of Abilene Christian Women. She also volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels and RSVP. Polly enjoyed her weekly bridge and poker card games with friends. Moving to Ruston in 2002, Polly was a resident of Alpine Guest Care. She had many friends and was an inspiration to many. She loved all kinds of music, the color pink, and chocolate. Mrs. Harding was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husbands, and grandson Kendall R. Flournoy. She is survived by her sons Dr. Robert Bob Flournoy and wife Patricia of Ruston, and Dr. Richard Dick Flournoy and wife Sue of Mt. Vernon, TX. Also surviving are grandchildren Tim Flournoy, Daron Flournoy, and Heather F. Bowling and husband Aaron of Ruston; Dan Flournoy and wife Karla of Longview, TX; Curt Flournoy and wife Karen of Shreveport, LA; Todd Flournoy of Venice, CA; and Amy F. Edwards and husband Dave of Houston, TX; great-grandchildren Drake Kempf of Rockford, MI; Christopher, Carter, and Caeden Flournoy of Longview, TX; Hunter, Johnny Law and Kendall Flournoy of Ruston; Grant and Anna Bowling of Ruston; and Claire and Allyson Edwards of Houston, TX. Visitation for Mrs. Harding will be on Thursday, August 2, 2007 at 10:00 AM in Fellowship Foyer at Trinity United Methodist Church, Ruston, LA, where she was a member. The memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM in Burkhalter Chapel with Rev. Andy Hurst and Rev. Rolly Walker officiating. Burial will be in Abilene, TX on Friday, August 3, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Elmwood Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
