LaVerne Pearce Abernathy Funeral Services for LaVerne Pearce Abernathy, age 92, will be held Tuesday, November 13th, at 10 am in the Chapel of Temple Baptist Church in Ruston, LA. Officiating the service will be Dr. Rick Byargeon, Rev. Dale Oden, and Rev. David Abernathy. Music will be provided by her nephew, Bro. Steve Lawson. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home. Mrs. Abernathy was born on February 21, 1915 in Sikes, LA, and passed away November 11, 2007. She graduated from A.E. Phillips and was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University. LaVerne was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church in Ruston. For over 20 years Mrs. Abernathy was the secretary at Pearce Lumber Company located in Ruston. Mrs. Abernathy is preceded in death by her husband, Frances H. Abernathy. She is survived by a son: David Abernathy and wife Jerri; granddaughter Kristen Bissell and husband Mattieu of Ruston; grandson Jason Ledet of Jacksonsville, FL; and grandson Jonathan Abernathy of Ruston. Other survivors include a brother: Jacob Pearce and wife Mattsye of Ruston; sister-in-law, Ree Pearce of Ruston, and numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Pallbearers will be nephews: Carey Alsup, Don Austin, Danny Garbarino, Roger Lawson, Jim Pearce, and Marshall Pearce. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, November 12, 2007, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.
