Kathy Jane Nelson was born on May 18, 1968 in Sterlington, LA and passed from this life on July 30, 2022 at her home in West Monroe, LA at the age of 54. She passed away after a long struggle with complications from diabetes, mental health issues, and substance abuse.
These ravages not only robbed her quality of life and her beauty, they also ultimately ended her life. If only one person who is also struggling is inspired to overcome by Kathy’s story, her death will not be in vain. You are loved and valued by someone, just as Kathy was.
The Kathy (with a K) we choose to remember and treasure was an absolute natural beauty filled with humor and kindness. A kind soul, sometimes too good for this world, she generously supported others. She had a beautiful smile and loved to laugh, and she was quite the comedian. She enjoyed working with her hands- arts/crafts and nurturing plants/ flowers. She had the curiosity of a child when it came to nature.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents Jane and Billy Nelson, and former husband Ronald Spillers.
Those left to cherish her are her son Doc Spillers of Downsville, LA.; two sisters Donna Nelson of West Monroe, LA and Melinda Bullock (Curt) of Walker, LA.; brother Scott “Randy” Nelson of West Monroe, LA.; nieces Renae Vespremi (David), Erin Davidson, Emily Henry, and Kristen Mims (Christopher); nephew Richard Tremaine (Katie); great nieces Abigail, Lucy-Jane, and Amelia; great-nephews Carson, Liam, and Isaac; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Kathy will forever be loved and remembered by all who knew her. Although our hearts are breaking, she is now mercifully at peace.
A memorial to honor Kathy will be held at Kiroli Park in West Monroe, LA on Saturday, September 24, 2022 from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Benjamin’s Shelter.
In lieu of flowers, her family is asking for donations to be made to the American Diabetes Foundation, National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI), or Rays of Sonshine in Monroe, LA.
