Kathryn Platt Ward, aged 86 of Bernice, Louisiana passed away peacefully on April 2, 2020.
She was born to the late F.C. and Lucille Platt on August 21, 1933, and was a graduate of Bernice High School and Louisiana Tech. Kathryn was married to the late Charles Edward Ward.
Kathryn was a school librarian until her retirement and during her career worked at Bernice High School, Lillie Middle School, and Cedar Creek. She also served as librarian of First Baptist Church of Bernice where she was a lifelong member and so fondly referred to as “My Church”.
Kathryn loved to play cards and bunko with her friends and was a member of several groups and could always be counted on to fill in at a moment’s notice when called upon by others. She carried her “competitive winning streak” with her to Alpine as her room was filled with her many winnings at the daily BINGO. For many years she was a passionate and skilled China Painting artist and gifts of her works were treasured by those receiving them. She was a charter member of the Ruston Porcelain Arts Guild, Bernice Garden Club, Bernice Historical Society and dearly loved serving as a Pink Lady for TriWard/Reeves Memorial Medical Center. She was often seen around town delivering her baked goodies to the residents at Bernice Nursing Center as well the businesses and her friends.
Kathryn is survived by her two children; Joanna Ward of Bernice, Louisiana and Marilou Daigle of New Orleans and a sister, Frances Platt Burford of Ruston, Louisiana. She is also survived by her 2 grandchildren, Josie Marie Daigle Alderman of Johnstown, CO and her husband, George, and Hunter Thomas Daigle of Metairie, Louisiana. Kathryn has 2 great-grandchildren left to cherish her memory, Ethan Thomas Alderman and Allie Claire Alderman. Kathryn is also survived by her brother-in-law, Paul Keith Ward, and sister-in-law, Nancy of Pensacola, Florida, sister-in-law Peggy Ward of Meadow Vista, California and sister-in-law Janet Wheelus of Russellville, Arkansas. Kathryn also had numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who she loved dearly and that feeling was mutual.
The family would like to acknowledge the loving care provided for their Mother and sister by Nicole Levingston. Words cannot express our appreciation to you for all that you have done to take care of our precious loved one.
Additional thank you to the staff of Professional Hospice, Nikki Albritton and Allison and the many staff members at Alpine who she loved and enjoyed so much.
Due to the present climate of caution, a Private Graveside will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2020. A community and family celebration of her life will be held at a later date under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home – Ruston.
