Funeral services for Kathryn Agnes Kelly Borland will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 4:00 P.M. in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe with visitation beginning at 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. with Ron Lowe officiating. Interment will be held Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. at Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Rayville under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
Kathryn passed away on August 27, 2023 in West Monroe. The youngest daughter of William and Una May Kelly, she was born July 14, 1933, near Sarcoxie, Missouri. She began training as a nurse at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, but left the hospital to marry Jack G. Borland on June 16, 1954. Four children were born of their union. A military wife for 25 years, she often maintained the household alone during her husband’s frequent absences on Air Force duty. After 20 years as a homemaker, Kathryn resumed her interrupted nursing training at the University of Louisiana, graduating from the University of Nevada and certifying as a registered nurse in 1977. She served in the respiratory care unit of Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas for 17 years, being placed in charge of the unit after her first year of employment. She came to Farmerville in 1996, residing there in retirement with her husband for the remainder of her life. Mrs. Borland is preceded in death by her son, David and one grandson, Nathan.
Kathryn is survived by her husband of 69 years, Jack; two sons, Thomas and John of Texas; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Blair of Farmerville; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
