Joseph “Joe” Wade Dickson, Jr. died peacefully at home on March 17, 2024, at 90 years old.

Joe was born November 19, 1933, in Grappes Bluff, Louisiana to the late Annie Lee (Ham) and Joseph Wade Dickson, Sr. Joe was predeceased by brothers, Everett, Thurlow, and Lonnie, and infant grandson, Joseph Lauterbach.

After graduating from Fairview-Alpha High School in May 1951, he joined the United States Air Force. He had tours in Riverside, California; Japan; Guam; Barksdale, and Omaha, Nebraska. At Barksdale, he met and married his wife, Patricia Ann Cole. After being released from active duty at SAC Headquarters in 1958 Joe and Pat moved to Ruston, where Joe attended LA Tech.  He began his service in law enforcement as a student policeman at LA Tech. He was part of the Civil Defense Unit and helped form the Reserve and later the SCOP units in Lincoln Parish.  He enjoyed his 50 plus years of service with the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Joe was in the insurance and real estate business before becoming Administrator of the Lincoln Parish Tax Commission. After retiring, Joe and Pat joined the Caney Lake Sams and enjoyed many years seeing our wonderful country by RV.  His favorite destination was Alaska where he made three trips in an RV and one on a cruise. In addition, he was a member of Temple Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge, Barak Shriners, the VFW, and the old Turtle Creek Coffee group.

Joe is survived by his wife of 67 years, Pat, three children, Bob (Diana) Dickson of Winona, TX, Mike (Shirley) Dickson of Bossier City, and Judy (Kirk) Lauterbach of McKinney, TX; eight grandchildren, Laura, Ann Marie (John), Marina (Kellan), Kelly (Aaron), Michael, Kenneth, Steven (Jordan), Luke, and four great-grandchildren; brothers, Stanley and Lee.

Funeral services will be held at Temple Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, with visitation from 9 to 11 am before the service. Officiating will be Dr. Reggie Bridges, Reverend Dale Oden, and Reverend J. Lee Dickson. Interment will be under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes with a private burial at Kilpatrick’s Memorial Gardens. Joe’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church, Shriners Hospital, or a place of your choice.
