Funeral services for Joseph “Charlie” Meggs, Sr. will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, 1200 Lamy Lane, Monroe, LA. Visitation will be held Saturday from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Interment will follow at Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home Monroe, LA.
Joseph Charles Meggs, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, February 27, 1941. Mr. Charlie had resided in Monroe, LA since 1970. He attended Kosciusko High School before enlisting in the United States Army where he rose to the rank of E4. When relocating to Monroe, Charles began working in the production department of Dittco Products, where he eventually held numerous leadership roles and positions.
In 1990 Mr. Charles helped co-found Premier Steel Doors and Frames where he was actively involved until his retirement in 2017. He was, during his employment, an honorary member of DHI, AGC and the MBMA. He was loved by many and was always engaging with the off-beat jokes and humor. Charlie was one of a kind.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents the Rev. Alton Meggs and Gussie Meggs, his sister Glennis Halford and brother Alton Verlon Meggs.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret Ann Pearson Meggs, sons, Joey Meggs and wife Christa, Darrell Meggs and wife Lara, daughter, Angela Meggs; grandchildren Kelsey Stokes,Courtney Norris, Adriane White, Olivia Pearson, Bailey Meggs, Michael Meggs, Jenna Watson, Kayleigh Meggs, Jacob Jarratt and Ashtyn Meggs; great-grandchildren Nora Norris, Bennett Stokes, Jackson White, Catherine Stokes, Kannon Blake, Lilah White, and Bishop Stokes and his two sisters, Cathy Frazure and Alta Hutchison; and numerous friends of the family.
Serving as pallbearers are Jacob Jarratt, Michael Meggs, Ben Stokes, Trent Norris and Travis White.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Clint Gebhardt, Hristo Ivanov and Danny Gebhardt.
A special thank you goes out to Elara Caring Hospice for their heart and care during his last days and to his selfless sister Alta for her love, support and companionship.
