A Holy Mass celebrating the life of Mr. Joseph Christopher Slavant, Sr., 77, of Monroe, will be held on Monday, February 26, 2007, at 10:00AM in St. Matthews Catholic Church with Father Joe and Father Job officiating. Interment will follow in Monroe Memorial Park under the direction of the Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. Mr. Slavant was born on July 20, 1929, in Monroe, and passed away on February 22, 2007, in Monroe after a battle with cancer. Joe graduated with a degree in advanced mathematics from Northeast Louisiana State College and utilized this degree in his long professional career in the automotive industry. A devoted father of four, who passed his faith on to his children, Joe attended Mass daily at one of the three parishes he belonged to which included ULM Catholic Campus Ministries, St. Matthews, and Our Lady of Fatima. Mr. Slavant was a devout Catholic who was involved in numerous capacities for the Roman Catholic Church and treasured donating his time for its causes. A loving husband to the end, he looked forward to being reunited with his beloved wife, Jerri. Survivors include his 4 children; son, Joey Slavant, daughters, Jeni Slavant, Cheri Evans, and Cathy Hibbard and her husband, Harold; 4 grandchildren; John Evans, Jeri Lyn, Drew and Holly Hibbard; and a brother, James Slavant. Pallbearers will be John Evans, Harold and Drew Hibbard, Jimmy Ramsey, Mike Prestwood, and Ed Greer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to the ULM Catholic Campus Ministries. A Wake Service will be conducted at 6:00PM on Sunday evening, February 25, 2007, in the Chapel of the Kilpatrick Funeral Home, 1200 Lamy Lane, Monroe. Family visitation will follow the Wake at the funeral home until 8:00PM.
