Jon Michael Swain Sr. Kilpatrick Funeral Home Ruston, LA 71270 Funeral services for Jon Michael Swain, Sr, age 71, of Ruston will be held Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Interment will follow at Pines Memorial Cemetery in Ruston. Mr. Swain passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2011 from complications of Gastric Cancer. Born on July 15, 1939 in Columbia, NC, Mike was an engineer, inventor, and innovator, holding many patents for equipment he designed and built to pioneer the highway retexturing Industry. He was the owner and CEO of Skidabrader of Ruston. As a hobby, he enjoyed restoring classic cars and won many awards at car shows for the quality of the cars he restored. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years Janet Greeley Swain. He is survived by his two sons: Jon M. Swain, Jr and Daniel Allen Swain of Ruston; his daughter and grandson Sandra Swain Ling and Alexander Derek Ling of Houston and six brothers and sisters. Receiving of friends will be at Kilpatrick Funeral Home on Sunday, from 11:00 AM to time of service in the chapel at Kilpatrick Funeral Home. Dear Swain family, I didn't realize Mr. Swain had passed until yesterday when I read his obituary. We've been his next-door neighbors for the last 7 years. I wasn't even aware of his illness, and my family and I were shocked and saddened by this news. Within the last couple years, Mr. Swain and I really began to know each other. I realized that although he was a private man, he was very friendly and helpful toward me as we began to warm to each other. I'll miss him, and I offer you my sincere condolences. The world has lost a very kind and intelligent man.
