John graduated from Airline High School in Bossier City, Louisiana in 1976. He attended NLU and majored in criminal justice. He served as a Deputy Sheriff in Ouachita and Bossier Parishes in his early years.

John enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle with his “motorcycle gang” throughout Belgium, France and Spain. Upon his return to the US, he continued to enjoy taking motorcycle trips with his wife and friends. He also enjoyed visiting with his daughter and two grandchildren who are stationed in Belgium.
