Memorial services for Joe W. Caskey will be held Sunday, January 21, 2024, at 3:00 P.M. at Northminster Church, 2701 Lamy Lane, Monroe. Services will be officiated by Reverend Jillian Hankamer. Visitation will be held at the church from 2:00 P.M. until service time. Private interment will follow in Arcadia, LA at a later date.
Services are under the direction and care of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. Joe was born in Arcadia on December 18, 1932, and passed in Monroe on January 10, 2024.
Joe attended Arcadia High School and graduated in 1951. He was First chair trumpet in Arcadia High School Band all four years and in All State Band in Baton Rouge. He received a music scholarship to Louisiana Tech University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Band Education. Joe was the leader of the Debonnaires Dance Orchestra and member of the Tech Band. He received his Master Degree from Vandercook School of Music in Chicago. Joe was assistant director of the Army band in the latter part of the Korean War and was transferred to Camp Zoma, Japan, where he played 17 bugle calls a day. He also was assistant director of the camp band and Army Orchestra TV weekly program.
Joe returned home in 1957, when he married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Roberson. They have been married for 66 years.
In September of 1957, Joe was hired as the band director for North Monroe Junior High (later Neville Junior High). This was the opening of the new school. He finished his 20 years as band director of Neville High School Band.
After retirement from Monroe City Schools, Joe worked 20 years for Zeagler Music Company as instrument repair person. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Esther and Lamar Caskey; brother, William Caskey; and his in laws, Opal and Albert Roberson.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Caskey; daughter, Amanda Hauskild (Greg); and son, Van Wiley Caskey. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Haley Manning (Tyler), Heather Crain, William (Will) Crain (Sadie); and great grandchildren, Zoey Crain and Scarlett Crain; brother, L.G. Caskey, Jr.; sister-in-law, Gloria Caskey; nephews, Gary Caskey and Brian Caskey (Lori); great nephew, Seth Caskey (Blake); great niece, Lauren Bokesah (Adam); great-great niece, Linden Bokesah; and great-great nephew, Parker Caskey.
