Funeral services for Mrs. Whelan will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 21, 2022 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA with Reverend Tom Lowe officiating. Interment will follow at Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens Cemetery.Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday May 20, 2022 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA
Jessie Marie Spruell White Chenault Whelan, Age 91, was born March 6, 1931, to the late Israel and Mammie Bridges Spruell. Mrs. Whelan went to be with her Lord Jesus and Savior, from her home in Calhoun on May 18, 2022 surrounded by her family and a host angels. Along with her parents, Mrs. Whelan is preceded in death by the father of her children, Thelbert White; her husband, J. R. (Dick) Chenault; her daughter, Betty Sue (Suzie) White Seidenspinner; son in law, Damon Lowe; sister, Florence Spruell White; and brothers: Fred, James, Joe, Julius, and Archie (Bug) Spruell.
Mrs. Whelan retired from ULM (formerly Northeast University) where she worked as a cashier in the Schultz cafeteria on campus. She loved interacting with the students and staff during her time there.
Mrs. Whelan held a strong devotion to her family. She was lovingly known as, Momma, Mamaw, Granny, Aunt Marie, Marie and Ms. Jessie by her family and friends. Her home was the gathering place for every holiday and birthday celebrations. She was by far the best cook around and loved having family get togethers. She loved God with all her heart and lived a strong Christian life and example for her children. She was faithful to raise them to know the Lord and take them to church as small children, as they would often say, “Momma was the first one to teach me about Jesus”. She was the one to call on when needing prayer, guidance, or good motherly advice. Mrs. Whelan faithfully attended Christ Church until her health prevented her from attending. She was greatly loved by her children and family.
Surviving Mrs. Whelan is her husband of 17 years, John Whelan, her two daughters, Vivian Lowe Martin and husband Michael, Judy Fuller, her two sons, Garland White and B.J. White and his wife Carol. She is also survived by grandchildren; Kelly White Masters and husband Eric, Jeffery White, Danny White and wife Susan, Christy Lowe, Jessica Lowe, Chad, Brad, and Alan Clark and wife Ilse, Angie Dewerff and husband Geof, Randy Sturdivant, Nichole White, Billy Joe White Jr. and wife Cara, and Bradley Antley and wife Taylor. 38 great grandchildren and 18 great, great grandchildren. Sister-in-law, Patty Campbell and husband Ted.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Seidenspinner, ButchWhitaker, Daiken Boyte, Jordan Boyte, Geof Dewerf, and Michael Martin.
