Jerry Maurice Smith, 69, of West Monroe, LA died Saturday, January 01, 2011. He was born June 15, 1941 in Camden, Arkansas. Raised in Bernice, LA, Jerry was employed for many years in the paper industry and retired from Graphic Packaging Corp. in West Monroe. He was a member of McGuire United Methodist Church. Predeceased by his father, Carlton Smith, Jerry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rita Posey Smith; mother, Irene Smith of West Monroe; two sisters, Reba Thurmon and husband Ford of West Monroe, and Theresa Taylor and husband Walter of El Dorado, AR; brother, James Smith and his wife Sharon of Dothan, AL; two sons, Tommy Smith and wife Julie of Monticello, AR, and Travis Smith and wife Lori of Macon, GA; Grandsons, Jared and Braden Smith; Granddaughters Andrea Smith and fiancé Daniel Warren, Maegan Smith and fiancé Will Hiers, Laura Smith and Sarah Ellen Williams. Jerry loved to travel and camp, and he cherished each and every friend he made along the way. Many of these friends came or called to visit during his lengthy illness. He loved spending time with his sons and their families, and he was the greatest husband, Dad and Papaw. Funeral services are Monday at 1:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe with Pastor Michi Head officiating. Burial will follow at Bernice Cemetery in Bernice LA, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes. Memorials may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or McGuire United Methodist Church Building Fund.
