Carolyn Bolton Johnston left a message on February 12, 2008:
Joann, I learned of Jerry's illness some months ago and have not gotten back to Louisiana for some time. You may not remember, but you and Jerry came by to visit me when I was in Oschner's hospital in New Orleans back in 1957. Jerry was in dental school at the time. I was one sick puppy. On several occasion I spoke with Jerry on our airplane radios. Carolyn had to go to Houston yesterday on a family emergency so it is impossible for us to get down. I will send a donation to Methodist in Jerry's name. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I know you draw strength from your children and grandchildren. We have six two boys and four girls and fourteen grandchildren, and five years ago we lost our oldest son Dan to liver cancer, so we know the pain you are feeling. God Bless,   Benny

Lamar and Steve,I am sorry for the loss of your Dad.  When I coached at Cedar Creek, he was very nice and kind to me and I appreciated every thing he did.  It seemed that we bonded because we both went to school at Bastrop.  He will be missed.  I wish you two the best, and you were great guys to work with as athletes.Coach Murphy
