Janice Ophelia Thames Evans

Janice Ophelia Thames Evans, age 77 of Choudrant, LA, passed away on April 6, 2020.  Janice was born on August 30, 1942, in Winnsboro, LA.  to Travis Henry “Ted” Thames and Ruby Mae Rushing Thames.

Janice attended Rayville High school and married her loving husband A.W. “Pud” Evans on February 5, 1968.  They celebrated 52 years of marriage in February.  Her hobbies were quilting and cooking.  She loved to quilt and made quilts for all her children and grandchildren.  She also loved cooking for her family.  We’re pretty sure the entire town of Choudrant has enjoyed at least one meal that she cooked.  Her world revolved around her children and grandchildren.  The grandkids always wanted to stay with their “Gan”, because they knew she would drop whatever she was doing just to entertain them.  One grandchild went so far as to make his mom sign a contract saying that he could spend at least one night a week with his “Gan”.

Preceded in death are her parents; Travis Henry “Ted” Thames and Ruby Mae Rushing Thames, son; Brian David Evans, brother; William Henry Thames.

Survivors include her husband: A.W. “Pud” Evans of Choudrant, sons; Jr. Maddox and wife Phyllis of Ruston, Tim Maddox of Choudrant, daughters; Pam Price and husband John of Choudrant, Felicia Patton and husband Chris of Choudrant, granddaughters: Melissa Maddox, Kristin Maddox, Lauren Jones (Bobby), Morgan Ritter (Paul), Cassidy Olivo (Carlton), Addison Patton, and Kendall Maddox, grandsons: Landan Bailey (Destiny) and Luke Patton, great-grandchildren; Marlee Jones, Chloee Jones, and Hudson Bailey, sister; Myrtis Long and husband June of Baskin, brother; Merle Thames and wife Debbie of Baskin, brother-in-law; Buster Evans and wife Lois of Ruston, and numerous nieces, nephew, and friends.

“Gan” was so very blessed to have the best care possible provided by Premier Hospice where her oldest granddaughter Melissa had the honor of caring for her in her final days.  Thank you for all the good you do and your unselfish love for our family.

The family would like to give a very special thanks to the loving sitters who cared for “Gan” in her final days:  Joyce White, Nikesha White, Jessica White, Tomeki Holland, Vontella White, and Tori McMurry.

Due to the present climate of caution, a Private Graveside will be held at Choudrant Memorial Cemetery.  Rev. Jerry Whitman will be officiating, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Shreveport, LA.
