JAMES REX HOLSTEAD, SR James Rex Holstead, Sr Tony, age 87, made his last takeoff in his WWII B-25 to soar into the heavens to meet his Lord. Rex, in his bomber named ¨Stud, slipped the surly bonds of earth on October 30, 2006. A distinguished combat veteran, Purple Heart recipient and loving husband and father. Surviving Rex is his loving wife, Vivian, who celebrated his final takeoff on their 63rd wedding anniversary. He is survived by his daughter Linda Freeman, her husband Clyde, their children and grandchildren, his grandson James Rex Holstead III, his son James Rex Holstead Jr., his wife Irene and their children and grandchildren. As he often referred to it, Shooter Station, Cream of the South, Choudrant and his family were the center of his world. Growing up he yearned to join the Army Air Corps and become a pilot. To that end, he filled the requirement of having 2 years of college by attending Louisiana Tech on a boxing scholarship leading to his commission and graduation from flight school. Twenty years later and retirement from the Air Force, he returned to Shooter Station for Good. Many retirement ventures followed, concluding in a partnership that formed the Seemore Cable TV Company in Ruston now Suddenlink, formerly Cox Cable. Twenty years later, relaxation and a motor home followed. We will always remember his favorite phrase, ¨Let the Good Time Roll, and we will miss him dearly. Pallbearers will be James R. Holstead, III, Scott Szucs grandsons, George Easterling, Speedy Edwards, Eddie Ford, and Ronnie Johnston. Visiting hours will be 5:00 8:00 PM Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA. The funeral will be 10:00 AM Thursday, November 2, 2006 at Kilpatrick≠s chapel followed by a graveside service at the Douglas Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home.
