James Philip Pat Ryan Kilpatrick Funeral Home Ruston, LA Graveside services for James Philip Pat Ryan, 75, of Atlanta, GA will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Greenwood Cemetery in the family plot next to his parents in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home. Rev. Frank Folino, OFM will officiate the service. Mr. Ryan passed away on June 21, 2011 after a stroke. He was born in Ruston, LA., the son of Robert Edmond Ryan and Mable Clair Warren Ryan, on January 20, 1936. His father was a Civil Engineer; and supervised the building of the secret German POW Camp in Ruston. As a child Pat would enter the compound and mingle with the prisoners, who gave him toys they had made in their spare time. In 2009 Pat donated all his historical items to Louisiana Tech library≠s historical section. His father later worked at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport where Pat entered junior high school. He graduated from C. E. Byrd High School in Shreveport, received a degree in architecture from Tulane University in New Orleans, and a Masters in Business Administration from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. Pat served in the United States Army from 1958 through 1960, and was based in Korea. Pat was a restaurateur in New Orleans, where he was involved with Ruby Red≠s. In Atlanta he started and operated Ruby Red≠s Warehouse in Underground Atlanta, then The Country Gourmet on Roswell Road and in Piedmont Center, and Ruby Red≠s Warehouse on Old Ivy now Hal≠s On Old Ivy. Pat was an accomplished pianist and loved to play the piano, arid to perform for and with the customers. Tennis became his passion in later years, and he constantly played in the Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association, winning many trophies and making many friends. The funeral mass was held on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 10:30 am at the Cathedral of Christ the King, 2699 Peachtree Street N. E., Atlanta, GA 30305-3689.
